View Full Version : Bahamian Leadership (A) (B) (C) (D) Or (E)?
Lester R. Cox 09-20-05, - 12:25 AM Bahamian Leadership – Are We Really Up To The Task Of Running A Modern Bahamas?
Three questions for us to consider:
1. What is the state of leadership in the Bahamas at the party level (FNM & PLP parties), Cabinet level, Civil Service and Government Corporations? Are we operating at (A) (B) (C) (D) or (E) levels?
2. Should leadership be an issue in the next general election and what should we base it on?
3. For the 2007 election, what are your top three issues? Mine are; 1) leadership, 2) when will the next generation of leaders be ready to take over and 3) what will it take for us to connect political and economic power?

I don't think you can give one grade to all. Some are working better, some not so good. Remember now, we are talking about leadership only.
Party Level: PLP. C. FMN. E
Cabinet Level. C
Civil Service. C+
Government Corporations. D +
(You forgot one level that is slowing down Corporations. That level is Unions! I give them a E-)
2. Should leadership be an issue in the next general election and what should we base it on?
Leadership is always an issue. After all we are electing leaders. What should it be based on? Well, for "new" political leaders they are untried. All we can do is listen to their position and, if they seem creditably, we take a chance! Right now, the only persons we know that have been leaders (at government level) are Christie and Ingraham.
For the 2007 election, what are your top three issues? Mine are; 1) leadership, 2) when will the next generation of leaders be ready to take over and 3) what will it take for us to connect political and economic power?
As I have said, leadership should go without saying. It simply must be here.
Here are my issues, in no order of importance.
1. A workable immigration policy.
2. Encouraging Bahamians who are studying abroad to return after graduation and to encourage investment in jobs for them. For example: Medicine. Cuba has a system where people from other countries come to Cuba for medical attention. Why can't we do such a thing? We have a number of Bahamians abroad studying in the medical field. Most will find work in the US or England. I am sure there are Companies abroad that would love to set up business here - little tax, little government interference. However, just an idea but there are many other fields that might be explored.
3. One of your issues was, "what will it take for us to connect political and economic power?" The truth is, it will take very little! We need to get away from the archaic financial system we have. For example, Bahamians should be allowed to invest overseas without paying a premium. Also we need education, not just elementary education, by we need to educate the people in how they can become economially independent.
So, in short, my third issue would be a creative financial thinker in leadership. He does not have to be the PM. It should be the Ministry of Finance. That Minister should not be a Lawyer but a Businessman!

At least the FNM got a hirer grade than the unions...thank God!

How do we encourage doctors to come home again?

not by much!
How do we encourage doctors to come home again?
I used Doctors as an example. How to get them here should be the job of a truly creative government and an equally creative health department. (Two things we don't have now.)
Melody 10-09-05, - 09:29 AM I give the PLP (D) FNM (E) Civil Servants(E) Goverment Corporations (C) and Unions (E)
The only thing operating around here kinda properly is the Goverment Corporations.
Everything else is failing miserably.
The PLP leadership is letting the tail wag the head and its going down the line to civil servants who choosing who they are going to accomplish things for based on the ineffective leadership that they are having from a ministerial view.
The Ministers need to take control of their ministries and make those civil servants do theiir jobs and do them properly or get out.
THE UNIONS?????!!!!!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
How dare those teachers think that we are going to be held hostage with their striking and I don't care for what reason. They are so lousey they now have police in the schools doing the teachers job. They don't want children in school after 16 years because they can't rule them??????????
Teachers you need to take control over your class room and school and leave the police to go back to fighting crime.
The Public Service Union needs to go sit down talking about Social Workers and can't even get the story right.
BEC they are already taking too much from us. They need to go and sit down and be thankful.
Yes we all need more money, but look at the reality of it, Where in the carnation is the Goverment going to get 36 M to pay everyone the raise they want so bad?
No I am not a politcal person just one who has experienced much hardship due to ineffectual leadership.
The FNM needs to stop letting their leadership be chosen in the press. Let the FNMs choose their leader. Notice the PLP had a leadership crisis after Pindling died and no one knew what went on exactly on the PLPs.
Stop this nonsense, who is Daryll Miller to choose a leader for the FNM when he is a PLP. STOP IT AND STOP IT NOW - CLOSE YOUR DOORS AND CHOOSE YOU LEADER ITS YOUR PARTY RUN YOUR AFFAIRS. All you are showing the country is you all can't even get to gether on basic points thereby destroying the little confidence that persons may have in the party,
gian_18778 10-10-05, - 07:12 PM The leadership in this country stinks man, from top to bottom! Look at Politics, look at Government, look at the private sector. Leadership and management will continue to sink this country into the abyss!!!!!
Lincoln 10-13-05, - 05:26 PM All Fs except for the PLP they get a Z. This country is in horrible shape. It's time for a revolution.
diarra 10-18-05, - 06:54 PM The reason it never seems to get any better is that they are all friends and cohorts. I mean let's face it behind the scenes there is no real PLP and FNM. At the end of the day all of them are good friends, business partners or relatives. I long for a day when the young businessman and entrepreneurs of the community would stand up and put themselves for service. I tired of the lawyers and family politicians. I was too surprised to see that the young gentleman leader of the BDM married the daughter of a top PLP official the other day. I smiled cuz to me, and this is my opinion, it was too ironic. Nothing wrong with his decision and I wish them the best of luck. To me it was just funny.
I mean, when is this PLP/ FNM involvement end and a party, or individual for that matter, will come forth and show distinct differences in planning, authority and development that will help our country.
We need help and more now more than ever. I ein sure if a torch could even help us. So where do we go next?????????
PLP (D) FNM (D -) Gov't Corps (D)

When I was in grade school I read the story of rip van winkle, he slept for 100 years when he awoke the world had changed, it’s been a forty day and night fast from the internet, I too feel like van winkle but unlike him I see for the most part the mental machinations remained the same. To my granola bar crunching dirt worshipping tree hugging hippie peeps, I stand firm among you to the seventh generation: namaste. I have come to understand that leadership comes out of the people and it’s by their affirmation or their indifference that it exist. It’s amazing how we as Bahamians are able to externalize or deficiencies, I think that the major issue facing the country is having a population that is mentally, physically healthy.

ditto
But the (Z) grade is a little bit much...maybe an (M) grade is better!

Party Level: PLP. C. FMN. E
Cabinet Level. C
Civil Service. C+
Government Corporations. D +
(
How does one seperate Civil Service from Government Corporations....technically they are the same entity...Therefore C+ plus D+ equals a C-
