Ummm...

Is cable bahamas the only compnay that u are having trouble with. I'm sure there's another, but because they r private and they are dealing with MAN MADE PRODUCTS that they have to update every so often to keep uptodate in the tech world, u feel they should get hit harder.

I've heard many problems about cable but if it wasn't there u would be complaining bout batelco right....think bout it..

Every company system is not completely satisfactory to their customers. Give me one and then i'll call myself a liar.

Cable is doing their best....

u have a good day

I can't speak for Rory, but in my experience we are not looking for complete satisfaction, 100% across the board with every consumer. That would be unreasonable, if not impossible. However, every business should strive for that 100%. In the Bahamas I don't see that striving. Generally speaking, I see the "if you don't like it, go somewhere else" attitude. I see the, "I am only in this job for a pay cheque" attitude. I see the, "let me do as little as I can for that pay cheque" attitude. I see, so called "experts" being unable to do the job. I see that the only problem with Bahamian Business is Bahamians!

Having said that, I can happily report that here are a few Bahamians who understand the meaning of Businessman, who understand the meaning of service and customer care. They are few but they do a good job but, they are vastly out numbered by the majority who don't give a care!

As for us complaining. If I was in business I would like to hear compliments, yes I would. However, it is the criticism, constrictive or otherwise, that holds the true wealth. Here I would learn where I fell short and would correct it. Here I could improve my product and my service. Here is where I would GROW! Alas, most Bahamian businessmen let it go in one ear and out the other. Cable Bahamas is a case in point. With all the complaints they seem to have done nothing, or little, to fix the problems. It seems to be a case of "if you don't like it get a dish, or go to dial-up!!" P.S. That is just what I did!

you said youve had internet for a month? Ive had cable bahamas internet for the last couple of years, have installed and serviced it with many clients, including dealing with Static IP accounts for video. They are not doing their best, plain fact. Their technicians require further education and training. It appears they hire ANYONE that has minor knowledge of computers, which doesnt say much as ive seen and worked with local PC technicians for years now. The incompetent is more than the competent. Management also has issues as they will not answer the problems at hand. There are only a few bahamian message forums online right now, and as they deal with consumers that access these forums, I am really surprised they are not out browsing the forums and answering the complaints. They are making money and getting a regular salary so that must be sufficient for them.

In their beginning, their support and service was worth mentioning as superior, but as the months rolled on, it got worst and worst, as they got more and more clients. And i am not just talking about the downtime, but also the telephone support. When you call and go through 5-7 different tech support reps, to get to one technician who cant fix the problem anyway as he/she doesnt have the authority to access the certain computer, and they say they will call back but 5 days later no reply, AND your internet that you are paying $150 or $350 per month for, is still down; its not good.

The fact that they wont work with clients, instead they say thats the price and thats all we can do. I have numerous clients using Static IPs to view video remotely. The enormous amount of downtime has been stressfull, and more work for me, but with no money; endless phone calls with no outcomes for days or weeks. The number of clients I am switching to DSL will loose them quite a bit of recurring funds, but then I guess that wont matter to them as they 'just work there'.

Then when they came out with that block on SMTP outgoing mail servers, that just made things worst. They claim you could upgrade to a business account at $150 per month to get the use of your own outgoing mail server you are already paying a monthly service for, because their mail server is down 80% of the time. They had the nerve to say because you have your own mail server then you are automatically a business that requires to pay for a business account. This shows how much commom sense they have. I have a mail server and a web site but I am using the internet from home so therefore I am a home user, no matter what i do on the internet. They know so little, that they dont realise that home users use way more bandwidth than a business user, by downloding movies, files, messaging, online 24/7, when the majority of business users only use it for email.

And lately to find out from others that they give your personal information out to anyone they know, once they have your IP, this shows their true unprofessionalism that in a first world country would result in large law suits. Then again this is common in most businesses in the Nassau.

They are not a business, they are a monopoly.

PS. Batelco already gets its fair share of complaints also and has for years now. But at least once DSL is on, it stays on.

After years of stress with Coralwave (Cable Bahamas), we have recently switched to dial up with Speedway and are quite happy with it.

I don't find dial up much slower, if at all.

No more switching on in the morning and not going anywhere, even though the modem light indicates we are.

No more holding on forever on the phone until finally a customer service representative comes on. Very exasperating, especially when there's stony silence on the line and not even music or a recording that lets you know a real live person will assist you as soon as possible.

No more being told we need to upgrade, get a dedicated IP address, etc. - at more cost of course.

No more being offline for days each time Coralwave does a Sunday "upgrade" to their system.

Our next step might be DSL, as dial up is tying up our fax line, although I understand we can get a "V92 modem blaster" (I think that's what it's called) for dial up and this will enable us to receive faxes while we are online. However, we're not in any hurry, as hardly any of the people we communicate with these days use faxes, and at least we're not receiving all those junk faxes while we're on line (another "Issue"!).

And by the way, this posting is from a person (me) who wrote letters to the local papers in support of Cable Bahamas a few years ago when they came under a lot of criticism for their service!

Well i have had cable bahamas for a few years myself, and it is really frustrating expecially when running a business and needing to get online.

But they have givin me credit for the times that i can't get on ( sometimes days) but what they do is, look into the logg and they can see how many times you've called and they deduct a portion from your bill. Not a resolution but a start!!!!

theyve never made me or my clients that offer. and the clients were paying $150+ a month.

well it was not a offer they made, it was a demand that i gave them!!! Why should i pay for something and i didn't have that particular service?
