Bahamian Forum will examine the Bahamian - Haitian crisis and what has been done to address it.
Mr. Billy Roberts, a resident of Abaco will give a first hand up-to-date report on the issue in Abaco. He will discuss the origin of the crisis, why it was allowed to get out of hand and what he feels is being done and should be done about it.
Responding to Mr. Roberts, Bahamian Forum investigative reporters Ms. Cassandra Bullard and Ms. Beth Stewart will give an update from the Haitian Ambassador and Bahamian Government on what is being done and has to be done to establish proper boundaries and meaningful integration of Haitians in the Bahamian Society. Recognizing this is a hot issue we ask the audience to listen well and respond with the decorum and rules of the Forum.
Bahamian Forum is a non-partisan think tank sponsored by RBC Royal Bank of Canada and Finco. The views presented at the Forum do not represent the views of the sponsor.
BahKenya 10-04-05, - 10:42 AM As far as the Haitian Nationals are concerned: I think they are coming in, sometimes we know and sometimes we do not-- So, once they are caught, detain them, and then process them or at least some of them. Whatever fees there is for processing, I am sure they will be able to pay.
Whoever is helping them is taking money from them to come, so it is a way to make money. I am sure they will be able to pay whatever they are charged. Sending them back home will only cause more to come. Once they go back and explain to the others what they have seen. The preparation begins, and of course, they try to come back again.

Prince Kassad 10-04-05, - 02:12 PM ok, keep them, but put them on an island to farm for the bahamas, export the goods for moe money for the country, and also sell those goods cheap to bahamians ..:friday:
Agree, but i think that they should be allowed to work on these farms as punishment for breaking the Law of this country, after they served their time they may be allowed to join the community:bored:

I cannot agree with doing harm to the illegals but I do agree that Bahamians who hire illegals, where ever they come from, should be fined right down to their socks!!!

bahmaboy 10-07-05, - 01:57 AM yeah that was too much, well I dont think he really means it, but anyway, alot of them are very nice people, work hard, and are still humans. They've been dealt a hard blow in life, I guess we truly are lucky to have been dropped off the umbilical cord on this land hey
and thats all it is. i wish the world got along better. then folks could go where ever they please but if we functioned as one most likely people would have no need to flock to other areas in mass numbers. well thats never going to become a reality.
its good that they are having this meeting but for the most part it is a waste of time
