View Full Version : CFA/CPA/MBA candidate Wanting to Return Home
Ting-um 10-07-05, - 02:23 PM Are there places where I should be posting or mailing my resume?? I've taken the Certified Public Accountant exam, waiting for the results, and the Chartered Financial Analyst exam, also waiting for the results. I've been accepted to Kelley School of Business (Indiana University) and Owen School of Business (Vanderbilt) to complete my Masters in Business Administration.
I'm deciding if my prospects of finding satisfactory employment in the Bahamas are high or not. I've worked as an Analyst for American Greetings, a manager for Walmart and a CEO for a multi-million dollar corporation. I have offers from several firms in the US, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden and Finland. I would prefer returning to the Bahamas, however, if there were comparable opportunities available.

Alas, I doubt there is and there is the tragedy. We send Bahamians off to study but when they return there is little for them to do. They find themselves in a "it-is-not-what-you-know-but-whom-you know" trap.
One day we might wake up and realize that people like you are a valuable resources that this country needs - but it ain't going to happen today! If I were you, I would look for the best offer - it will not be here, alas!

Complete your Masters, then see where your opportunities take you from there. IF you do come back, make sure that things are in total alignment before you hit these shores - Preferably at a local "Off-shore" firm. Foreign bosses tend to appreciate real Bahamian talent a bit more than their local counterparts, especially if you are young. (Yeah, that's right. I said it!)
Coming home can be so disheartening at times, but if you have a strong will and "plenty stickability", you can make it. Note: Be prepared to use any and all political ties and affiliations. Dey is come in real handy, ya know!
Ting-um 10-10-05, - 12:43 PM The thing is that I can complete my masters online. Indiana University, Purdue, and Vanderbilt all allow me to finish my MBA online. The problem is that the cost is 30,000 - 50,000 a year approximately. I know I can find several companies here willing to carry at least half of the burden.
