bey when i used to live in nassau...i couldnt believe it! $3.99 for a liter of water and $12 for chicken breasts! i wouldnt even talk about red peppers ($7 for three and they had NO taste! forget tossing them with olive oil!). one time, i bought chicken korma/curry paste! LOL $ 5...the same costs 99 pence in the market in england! and dont even wan talk bout the quality of the produce! man i tried to cut out meat - that lasted for three months, because between the cost and the low quality...i was like.. to HELL with this!
One of the main reasons the SuperMarket King Pins atribute the high cost of food, is to the large amount of shop Lifting that occurs, both in house from Staff, and from school kids.
Im sure there is more to it than that, but I know that Shoplifting is a major problem here. For instance, when you go to the gas station and see a long line of school kids being kept outside while only 1 or 2 of them can go in at one time, for fear of stealing, plus they have to leave their bags outside .. thats just real sad.
I would however still think inhouse theft is more prevelant here than actual shoplifting. I have one CCTV client in particular that has fired soo many staff for skimming that it is not funny after a while, and they continue to get fired, very quick turnover of staff. What actually happens is he shows them the video, then they quit, cause to fire someone here is like digging your own grave, even if they did something wrong, they love the unions. And if you bring the cops in, thats just extra cost out of your pocket :D
There are others clients too getting ripped from staff, they just dont watch the video as much as the other guy.

I can get 100 asprin for 80 or 90 sumtine cents. That is outragous. Rory is right shoplifting and in house theft has a lot to do with it but dang does it still have to be so high. up this way many stores have signs and stickers up that read: "to keep prices low, we are watching you." LOL
What is being done to try and bring these prices down to a resonable level. Folks that make 200 p/w must be operating in the red constantly.
