Agreed! :)
islandgyal 02-24-04, - 03:27 AM i'd like to politely request a moment of webwide silence in respect for all of the victims of aristide's hated lavalas 'party', including [i was just told today] the slashing of my college roommate's throat at her place of business at the hotel at which she worked in petionville. her two children escaped with her sister to miami.
the travesty has gone on long enough ... why have we waited for the return of the tonton macoute before doing anything substantial?
god bless us all ...

I am sick and tired of all of this special attention given to Haiti on this website. You people act like Haiti is the only country in the world with those kinds of problems. There are crises in africa that are just as serious as the one in Haiti. Stop being bias with your pitty. Why don't you people that are constantly talking about Haiti please show us how to help this country. In details that is. Tell us how a small country with the population of about 300,000 people and limited amounts of wealth and resources possibly help this larger country of millions of people. From what is reported by The Miami Herald (an American Newspaper) stated that one of the U.S. officials by the last name Noreaga said that both opposition and Aristide's government wouldn't cooperate with the other countries in the region in regards to coming to a peaceful end to the violence. What else can we do but give them advise? We don't have an army and we don't beleive in invading a country to achieve goals of our missions. The only possible thing we can do is just talk and lend advise to thes people. We shouldn't get too deep into this even though it is affecting us directly. Even if the Haitians are granted their wish from god. Oh yeah I forgot, their religion is voodoo. But never the less, even if they got thier wish for a new government that still wouldn't stop them from making a mass exudos from Haiti. All we can do is beef up the patrols of the R.B.D.F around inagua and use the money we waste deporting these people to hire more citizens to work the RBDF and Immigration department. These people only beleive in brute force. Thats what was going on there for 200 years. They can't handle a democratic government. They only believe in a millitary ran government. Why don't you guys stop wasting your time talking about helping Haiti. Your beating a dead horse. Use all that energy to find ways to enhance the lifestyle of the Bahamas, especially the family Islands. Don't you realize if we can become more self sufficient and alot more wealthier with an even stronger economy, then we will be capable of actualy helping our fellow man. We have to be able to help ourselves first before we can help others. Its common freaking sense! :realmad:
Peace out. I LOVE THE BAHAMAS!!!!!!!!

Everyone has their opinions on this issue.
Let's leave the name calling out of it.

they must be a visiting mod from one of those wannabe gangsta bahamian teen sites :D
bad language and name calling is prominent on their forums.
Iupdate 05-09-04, - 11:13 PM I don't know about u, but I have a problem with the amount of Haitian flags I see popping up on cars. In the midst of my celebrating my independence, while I am proudly displaying my flag, the Hatians are displaying theirs, what is that all about? It is an insult to me, if they are proud of their country then they should go home and put up their flag. How dare u come in my land and put up your flag. Wake up my people. This is seriuos times, this may seem like a small thing but is only the beginning.
Today it is the flag, tomorrow it will be streets named after them, they will be running for public offce soon, and then in the very near future peas and rice, and names like Cox and Bain will be replaced by Haitian names and dishes. They have already started to open businesses and guess who they employ?
This up and coming generation is in for the fight of their lives, we must fight to keep this land for our children.
THIS LAND IS MY LAND. Sail away my friends :bahamas::sailing::hot:
OK, this does not sound to me like you have a problem with the Haitians this sounds to me like you have a problem with your politicians. Ok, that’s it, that’s it, you have a problem with your policy makers for not doing things right. Either they should have never send these brothers to Haiti when they were children or they should have never let them come back.
So it is not the Haitians that are the problem but rather the government, those men in dark suits and shiny limo that we are paying to screw up and to throw the blame on the others like the Haitians.
I say blame the right people or like JJ Sweet says get a boat and take them back your self.
bsmbahamas 11-09-04, - 03:11 PM If you will have a hero day in the Bahamas, please be sure to include the Haitian revolutionary figures...it will work to your advantage in two ways, 1. it will let the Haitian people that are in the Bahamas know their history counts and they should not be ashamed of their Haitian heritage and pride ever....2. those that cant stand us and hate us for being in the Bahamas will have a chance to read into our past and see who we are and what we are made of, and only then can some of them draw a better conclusion of us...
if you need stories, trust me I have them and they are just as good as Boukman...
I think sharing your stories as well as creating a place to hold all out cultures and backgrounds with regard to understanding Haiti would be a good idea.
Why don't we create a site instead of a post and dedicate it to discussing the issues of haiti and the bahamas and their respective histories.
if yo guys think this would be a good idea i can probably set up a site for this purpose and allow the public.
bsmbahamas 11-10-04, - 09:57 AM In most of the world people can fly flags from whatever country they wish. In America, haitian, Bahamian, French, English and American flags are all shown proudly and very few people would complain about it. I do not understand why Bahamians are so distrustful and hateful of outsiders. In most countries, hard workers like the Haitians would be welcome. Also, the excellent quality of expat workers the Bahamians get would be enviable. In Canada, we wish those expats in the Bahamas would come back! And here you try to kick them out. I will never understand why that is.
The simple answer is that we bahamians hate change and resist it. We tend to be to hung up on culture, history and what we are mostly forced into doing by our parents.
This is why 3 american teens(and even chinese people) can put their heads together and start a company when black persons, esp. caribbean people want to do everything by themselves.
the problem is they, *not me*, have security issues, and everyone wants to show up the other person. what they all need to do is read and understand what dependence really is, then they can work at becoming truly independent. Then, and only then, can they move on to the highest level which is inter-dependence - which involves 2 or more independent people or companies working together for a common goal, sorta like in the states where you can go into KFC and buy TacoBell or when you visit a company and they don't have what you offer but recommend you to another company.
you'd be suprised how many companies have a printed flyer that they hand you when you purchase or inquire that you must take to another store. Think about it ... you buy a wedding gown and the store owner gives you a sheet of coupons for a wedding planner, a jewellery store, limo driver, men's suits, etc. The owners of the other store know you sent them your customer and pays you a commission for the referral or if not they agreed to send you customers in return - at the same time helping the customer to find related products and services. Just think of how much extra business you would receive in a year, and if you treat the customer presenting the coupon nice instead of acting like it is a drag to honor their coupon - you may have a new customer for life - as well as who he/she told about their experience.
I sell a bahamian cookbook online, and i earn commision checks from other cookbook sites and authors because the person who did not by my cookbook left my site and purchased through a link provided to a bunch of similar sites.
Now, if I didn't provided affiliate links to similar products, not only would I have lost a sale of my cookbook but also the commission from referring my customer to another website. Of course my site is focused on my book and offer the others as an alternative or additional purchase.

As I type I can hear a co-worker talking about how money will go missing because we are launching internet banking. Employees steal from companies
all the time - but that is no reason to close a profitable business. :dunce:
Beside every other bank in Nassau is already offering internet banking. :sparky:
Change is a part of life - deal with it, or it will deal with you.
Put another way - "adapt or die".
I am confident my people will catch up, i just hope it is not after we loose all our tourists and foreign investors to Cuba and the other countries that often provide cheaper and superior service.
bsmbahamas 11-10-04, - 12:14 PM My good friend we share history with Haiti and vice versa.
I admire the history of the Bahamas itself as a nation but also our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Even so; I admire Haiti even more because they paved the way for black leadership in this region.
I have a great desire to learn more about the history of Haiti. Does that make me unpatriotic? No! History is still being made and only God knows what the future holds.
One day we may all have to flee this land.
I seriously wonder what Bahamian would do if all these haitians spreading across the caribbean and the US finally get smart and do something about Haiti, and we keep digging bahamas further into the ground.
I sincerely hope that if that day ever comes the haitians will allow us into their country and help us get on our feet the way we 'should' be helping them.
the bible says "one day one man esteemeth above the other, and another day the other esteemeth above the first".
The reality is that we live in a very dynamic world, and being such a small community of islands with "every Christ 'ting" located on Nassau, one hurricane or disease could wipe us out overnight, and if, God forbid we survive and somehow america imposes a trade embargo against us,
we will be totally screwed.
Even though some of my illiterate rasta friends think we don't need america,
to survive! - just imagine the cost of items imported from america suddenly changing because they are coming from further away?!
the reality is we are doing 'relatively' well right now, but what will happen if that were to change tomorrow?
It really is not nice to mock and scorn our black brothers and sisters because they have fallen. I agree that illegal immigrants - haitian or otherwise, need to be sent home - but if home is not where the heart is - will they really stay home?
statistics say - NO!!!
and your parents already told you if you can't say anything nice(or constructive), then don't say anything at all. :footmouth
Further - this post was created to *discuss* the problems at hand and possible solutions not for venting your anger toward your fellowman.
Nobody really wants to read the garbage being spewed from your angry
mouth.
try to be a part of the solution - we already have thousands of persons mocking the situation *instead* of proposing good solutions - remeberer even if the bahamas can't help some other country might read a solution posted here in the future and possibly help haiti out.
stop flooding the board with your nonsense and brainless comments,
nobody really cares that the haitians are here - we know that already - we care about solving the problem. the government can't stop 'em, only send 'em back - and it is painfully obvious that they are jumping on the first thing leaving to come right back.
so again mocking won't help ...
venting won't help ...
love won't help either, but action motivated by love, to make their home a better place to live will help.
peace
:bahamas:
bsmbahamas 11-10-04, - 12:48 PM I am sick and tired of all of this special attention given to Haiti on this website. You people act like Haiti is the only country in the world with those kinds of problems. There are crises in africa that are just as serious as the one in Haiti. Stop being bias with your pitty.
"i bet you aren't trying to help the africans either"
Why don't you people that are constantly talking about Haiti please show us how to help this country. In details that is. Tell us how a small country with the population of about 300,000 people and limited amounts of wealth and resources possibly help this larger country of millions of people.
"I bet you aren't giving detailed information on how to help the Bahamas either ..."
"give actual help, if not to them from us, from another country by following our proposals, which will help us ultimately ..."
We don't have an army and we don't beleive in invading a country to achieve goals of our missions. The only possible thing we can do is just talk and lend advise to thes people.
"ummmm .... isn't that what the message board is for?(for you to post detailed advise) AND isn't that what we are doing - lending our advise?" :dunce:
We shouldn't get too deep into this even though it is affecting us directly.
"Oh God ... you need to loose your ability to speak!
You said: it-is-affecting-us-directly ...
if a mosquiot bites you what do you do?
if you have an itch, what do you do?
if you had a brain, what would you do?
(sorry couldn't help it)
When, in your very humble opinion do you think we SHOULD get 'deep into this'?
When your private facilities are also crowded with paying haitians? Or when everyone in your neighbourhood is a foreigner.
this is what you need to do asap -> get some duct tape and :taped2: it!
(then tape it again)
"
Even if the Haitians are granted their wish from god. Oh yeah I forgot, their religion is voodoo. But never the less, even if they got thier wish for a new government that still wouldn't stop them from making a mass exudos from Haiti.
"not logical at all, get the tape :taped2: "
All we can do is beef up the patrols of the R.B.D.F around inagua and use the money we waste deporting these people to hire more citizens to work the RBDF and Immigration department.
"think about how much money would be left if you actually buy a new tire instead of paying $4 until the tire falls apart"
These people only beleive in brute force. Thats what was going on there for 200 years. They can't handle a democratic government. They only believe in a millitary ran government.
"a democratic government isn't necessarily the best government type,
and a dictator type government could actually work if the leaders were
not always corrupted and actually listened to the people, the reality is that even democratic leaders only sometimes listen to the people"
Why don't you guys stop wasting your time talking about helping Haiti. Your beating a dead horse. Use all that energy to find ways to enhance the lifestyle of the Bahamas, especially the family Islands.
"because if we don't find a solution, other than sending them back home, which clearly is not working either, we will not be able to support our growing population, and then we would all be poor - :duh: "
"read my comment about fixing the problem again"
:taped2: :dunce: :taped2: :dunce:
lol
ok sorry for being harsh,(you started it).
... and I double dare you to respond
:taped2:
lol
Tafadhali 12-05-04, - 06:24 PM You cant be serious, last time I checked The Bahamas was a free country and anyone can display whatever they want on their personal property as they so see fit. This is your country so why do you feel inferior to any other national? There is a saying dont hate, do better! So I challege you or anyone else who feels that way, take some action and open your own business, and maybe you to can hire those so said people.
