View Full Version : Don’t throw your vote away!
Tafadhali 10-30-05, - 05:29 PM 2007 is a stone’s throw away and all I can say is be wary and cognizant of the circus of petty tirades that seek to draws attention away from what is still yet to be done for a better Bahamas.
Focus on the issues:
Our Image-
we need to clean it up!
Our PR machinery or lack their of, isn’t wavering to well, Presentation says a lot.
We are sending mixed signals and wrong messages to Bahamians and to the international Community.
Why do elected officials seem to have an air of superiority?
Why do we continuously elect corrupt greedy tin potcake leaders?
Why are civil servants(when I go to pay my bills) so stink and rude to the general public- why is it so many of them too?
Why do we look like a banana republic?
Why is the Bahamas viewed as a nation for sale?
Why are their obvious conflict of interest deal made with gov’t officials and “foreign divestors”?
Why does it seem that is cronyism still the order of the day?
Why arent we better acquainted with our neighbours to the N S E and W and our Caribbean brothers and sisters (minus CSME).
The world is a changing place where do we see ourselves in it?
Globalization is a scary thing (for all the wrong reasons) and our people will not be prepared under the cloak of Bahamianization- it has served it purpose- we have to be able to be competitive quick and decisive or we will fail.
Woman and Rights in the Constitution- one woman, one vote anyone?
Our Bahamian Boys- killing each other…caution them to use them minds and not their hands…their angry about something…why are they angry? I don’t know but a Fat Cat Minister and her Mininstry are allotted funding in the yearly budget to find out why?
Our Bahamian Girls- having babies…A preemptive strike: free birth control anyone? What happened to the Bahamian shame? Does this relate to lack of education or are they just bored?
Education-
What happened to Education being an outlet to fighting poverty?
Why do we have D+ schools?
Does the Ministry of Education understand that they provide the foundation for education and career decisions made during the late teens and early twenties are crucial to the lifetime employment and earning prospects of an individual. Those who do not do well during this period seldom catch up to the rest of the population…need I say more?
Why does the Ministry allow itself to be half -arsed with a part time Minister?
Why arent more Bahamians children aware of their Bahamians environment and their responsibility to it?
Why is there not a Bahamian program like the Bimini Lab is running to send Bahamian students to it (like American High schoolers are?)
It would be interesting to know how many children in Nassau are exposed to basic Bahamian tings like knowing how to fish? Sailing a boat? Making straw work? –
Out Island boys and girls know how to do these things, I wonder how many Nassuvians will know how to survive and be independent survive in the hard times yet to come?
The economy-
Why arent we taking the advice NOW as opposed to THEN from these international agencies like the IMF, World Bank, and IADB and whoever else?
Why do we continue to spend what we don’t have and when will a balanced budget be a reality in this nation and why is every statement after anything related to the economy ending with ting r-right when that is not so?
What’s our 20 year economic outlook and how will we build it?
Transparency-
Why is it so secretive to get an answer from gov’t?
Would transparency showcase the saddening level of incompetence I know that is already there?
Environment-
What happened to Bahamian Eco-Awareness?
Why don’t we treat our islands better?
What happened to keeping the Bahamas clean?
Why don’t Bahamians have a oneness with our beautiful nature?
Why isn’t a Recycling plan implemented?
Why isn’t solar power tooted and encouraged as a second energy source with all this hot steaming sun?
Utilities/Infrastructure-
Why does the water stink?
Why in this day and age do we have water shortages?
Why does the current always going off for any lil ting?
Why is underground powerlines implemented?- I know it will be expensive but that sure is a better way to go into debt rather than spending taxpayer money on frivolous bleachers!
Why the traffic lights don’t work?
Why cant I not have VOIP?
Why does my friend’s Blackberry not work when they come to visit me?
WHY WHY WHY
Poverty-
Bahamas and Homeless one would like to think are two words that don’t go together- how could this be we are small enough to take care of our own- What went wrong?
Abortion this is a issue that seriously needs to be addressed, and you would be amazed to know how unwanted children tie into the crime rate 15-20 years down the road.
The Meddling Bahamian Church
The Christian Council is nothing short of a bunch of overtly fanatical zealots who are anti- anything progressive that do most of nothing besides blame, beat, and pimp the victim AKA the “poor scratching Bahamian” as it gets better “by and by” when will our elected officials wise up and stop kissing their arse. This Christian nation scapegoat is hypocrisy at its best. I mean with all the sweet hearting pastors and Pimps are in the pulpit these days…
Homophobic hysteria- Leave these people alone, what happened to respect of individuals. Jesus loved everybody and we all have to stand in front of him for our own actions. I mean with all the homosexuals in high places in this nation and the obvious self loathing down low freaks screaming about sissyism all the time one would like to think one would like to think that they would have went quietly in the corner by now.
Lottery-
When will this be a legitimate fiscally beneficial reality?
This can help fund education and give our Youth “the way out” that they need.
Mass transit- The roads in Nassau arent getting any bigger and if any body has ever been or lived on a family island the need for mass transit is a entity that should have already been set in motion. The only excuse as to why this has not been implemented yet I suppose is because the same reason the Lottery hasn’t been implemented- the right person is getting their pocket stuffed.
Race relations- We are greater together than apart, you would think in this day and age we would have dealt with this by now.
Criminal Justice System-
There are plenty people in Fox Hill whose punishment doesn’t fit the crime.
Why is there any of the 800 lawyers in our land doing mandatory pro bono work- we are small enough so we should be concerned about the well being of our fellow Bahamian.
Police Brutality- there is clearly a disconnect with law enforcement and the general public. My little cousin and his friend did not deserve to be beaten up because they were walking unsupervised home from school.
The Illegal Immigration issue-
Why do Bahamians have to deal with clogged schools shanty towns and an uncontrollable unchecked population growth, when we are only a small nation of 300K people?
What happened to the IOM findings that was suppose to reported in September 2005?
The “dey wah take over” cries that seem to go unheard for government inaction is the reason why built up resentment and contempt exist and a civil war will ensue.
In Bob Herbert’s Promises Betrayed he speaks about there not being an enemy more treacherous and or as implacable liked entrenched ignorance. What issues are you concerned about? If you don’t know find out why! What would you like to see changed? Im sure there are many more issues that I haven’t outlined that you can add to, to show the “election suitors” vying for your vote. If they cant answer or begin to answer these questions without a flinch they don’t deserve your vote. The sad part is these answers are long over due!

damn tia! thats a mouthfull! excellent points you raised though...unfortunately, i need a while to respond! :hammer:
Tafadhali 10-31-05, - 06:19 PM I dont need your cool points and this thread isnt open for debate (well at least to me). The intent was not for you to respond on my issues, but to think about your issues when you choose your political candidate. If we as a people dont understand that the only way forward for us is to have an informed and knowledgeable public, we are doomed to failure. Ignorance is bliss alright- for those who benefit from taking advantage of other peoples ignorance.
Tafadhali 11-01-05, - 08:48 PM And remember to ask:
If the "development deals" are worth having our beautiful blue sea looking like the Florida keys full of murky brown water?
bahmaboy 11-03-05, - 07:49 PM this is the best post u ever posted. it must have felt good to get that off of ur chest. i say get it published.

Exrated 11-22-05, - 12:47 AM And remember to ask:
If the "development deals" are worth having our beautiful blue sea looking like the Florida keys full of murky brown water?
amen!
Growing 11-22-05, - 01:05 AM 1.)Recycling and cleanliness is a big issue for me... everything in nassau seems to have a layer of grime on it.... and the water keepz getting dirtier and more oily...
2.)Traffic... put a limit on how many cars per family... or how many cars come into the country... maybe have diff groups of ppl on diff time schedules so that the bulk of ppl arent trying to go 2 and from work at the same time... regulate public trans system... do something
3.)Education... Education... Education...
4.)Selling everything to these foreign investors... i don't see the long term benefits... i remember a time when i could go to certain beaches across certain bridges without even thinking about it... is this what is going to happen at all of these development sites?
5.)Agriculture... we should at least be able to feed ourselves...
6.)Immigration... nuff said...
7.)Corruption... sighz....
there are more but i'll only get mad or depressed... come like no matter what happens the same ppl are in charge and they've been living the good life so long that they don't kno the people exist and aren't complete morons... they go to this ministry or that ministry, put a buncha red tape in front of people who are trying to get things done and then go on vacation... these politicianz have given the young people of this country the $#!% end of the stick... if something drastic doesnt happen soon we'll be swallowed up by globalization and the bahamas will just be some mystical legend... it could happen.......
de redhead 11-22-05, - 09:42 AM One issue that I think is extremely important (though should not be politicized) regarding conservation is the issue of the Abaco parrot. These parrots are in extreme danger of becoming extinct, I hope that the Government (any Government) does everything in their power to assist the international conservational agencies that are attempting to avoid these parrots and all our other endangered species further decline. It would be a great tragedy if future Bahamians never get the opportunity to see all these indigenous species.

you have a voice, if this is something you feel passionate baout you should go forward with the force. start with the Bahamas National Trust and Im sue their are many ther avenues there you align your power with. You know I have never seen a Abaco parrot.
Tingum 11-22-05, - 03:45 PM Abaco Parrots? The government doesn’t care about things like that, they to busy bringing in investors to help destroy our islands. When I first move to Abaco in 95’, every morning on my way to school I saw or heard those birds….But now one will have to travel miles out into the wilderness to see a Abaco parrot (that’s if your lucky).

ddemocracy is government by the people for the people. if its something you care about make it known...you would be amazed how many people will be in "concert" with you once, one person comes out and voices their concern. if you care-take a stand. i aint never seen a abaco parrot but now Im concerned because we are in a situation where I wont ever see the parrot. I have to thank redhead for bringing this to OUR attention because alot of us dont know (as we all should) aout such things. I thank the internet everyday because it has been a courageous voice for the ignorant and unknowing (like me)
As bahamians, we have a right to take our concerns to people who want our power to vote them in the office of power. I hope unscrupulous people arent selling them on the black market. You know I thought that environmental concerns and animal extinction we soomething that hippy white people were relegated too. But I was naively dooped into beleiving that for what reason are beyond me, but whatI know is that we all have 24 hours in a day and too many of people that look like me relegate ourselves to not being more proactive and concerned about our environment.
this is our Bahamas we have to live here good or bad, we all have to be concerned about how our environment looks and how healthy it is, among other things.

What hurts me is that most of what you just said has been a problem in this land for at least 15yrs, and yet nothing has been done about it to bring about significant change.
That said, if forces me into a stalemate with voting because WHO can you believe/trust??? They all say the same things when campaigning, and all make promises, and when suffient time has elsapse you find out that some promises were not kept, so what's the difference??
PLP, FNM ??? It really has no effect on me anymore because no one has stepped forward, and proposed a 30yr plan (if it needs to take that long) to completely over-haul our pre-historic system of governance in this country!!
