Abiskan Moon-Angel 11-09-05, - 09:27 AM you come of as someone who tries to "school" your fellow bahamians about the outside world like "we een know nuthin" "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent" (Eleanor Roosevelt) CG 11-09-05, - 09:30 AM "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent" (Eleanor Roosevelt) Strongly agree with the late Mrs. Roosevelt. canewry 11-09-05, - 01:40 PM "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent" (Eleanor Roosevelt) laughing at Mrs. Roosevelt statement as she sat on the white house lawn, drinking pink lemonade while a black man was linched in Mississipi for looking at a white woman, simultaneously while, a black man was arrested in California for just being the wrong colour in the wrong place at the wrong time; not to mention the black woman who is forced to register her child to the overcrowded school in the project, while extra seats and better books are available uptown.... I laugh at Mrs. Roosevelt because she looked through rose coloured glasses when she said that and offered to feed the populace cake when they were begging for bread due to starvation... Tafadhali 11-09-05, - 03:02 PM "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent" (Eleanor Roosevelt) I cant be accused of that. and crediting that statement towards me is totally off base. You should just know that making assumptions can get your arse in trouble. Like I said earlier I read and listen and form objective opinions too! You dont have to leave the Bahamas to have a world view! bahmaboy 11-09-05, - 03:43 PM laughing at Mrs. Roosevelt because she looked through rose coloured glasses when she said that and offered to feed the populace cake when they were begging for bread due to starvation... whatever the circumstances and who ever said it the statement is definintly true. nobody could bring me down except for me finekameo 11-09-05, - 09:09 PM "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent" (Eleanor Roosevelt) CG and Bahamaboy, you are both very correct. The big problem back in the day of Mrs. Roosevelt was that the African Americans were taught that they were inferior and eventually they believed. Her statement went hand in hand with the human rights movement at the time to restore pride to a surpressed group of people. Eventually they did get the message and regained pride and stood up (or sat down in the case of Rosa Parks). Bringing this back to the point, this is the same situation that exists today with the gay culture in the Bahamas. I remember when I was in high school if you were even suspected of being gay you were harassed. God forbid you open your mouth and speak back, cause then that was a beating automatically. Now, when I walk down the streets of Nassau I see gay bois qualming all the time seemingly with no problem or at least much less of a problem than they did 10 years ago. My point is that it seems the local gay culture are adopting the words of Mrs. Roosevelt and refusing to feel inferior just because they don't have the same sexual and emotional urges as a hetero person. a-Dorsett-n-DC 11-10-05, - 06:18 PM I am a youth director and of reason we had our panel discussion on the above topic and many children claimed that this type of behavior is a norm in the their schools. and that some of the smartest children are entangle in it and so many of them try it out because they are either curious or they need extra love and attention. what are your views. The primary place that gay children loose and/or lack love and attention is when they decide to be honest with themselves and their families and they opt to openly identify themselves as homosexual. This is huge step that requires significant courage, intellect and hardiness and one that usually results in a loss of respect and the love and attention you spoke of earlier. If we really care about our youth we will make sure they are educated, sexually responsible and equipped to make sound decisions regardless of their sexuality. We will make sure they feel free to be who they really are without fear of the loss of love and positive attention such a revelation could easily result in. We would move to make our community one of acceptance and not one of fear and prejudice. Loss of love does not make our youth gay ....but being gay can assuredly result in an unfair and unfortunate loss of love, respect and understanding. You would be doing our country a service to carry that message to other youth directors. How is it that you were tricked into thinking you were gay? All I understand from your story is that you were molested. It just seems that you were not in a situation to fight off your molesters. I do feel sorry that you had to endure that but I applaud your strength for standing up for yourself and trying to confront your molester. You did make a serious flaw here that I find a bit offensive. It seems as though you are comparing homosexuality to pedophilia. You were molested as a child by a pedophile. Pedophilia and homosexuality are very different things that should not be confused. The former is a psychological illness, while the latter is a sexual orientation. It sounds like you are a very informed based on your experience. You describe the situation very well, talking about the "trades" (hetero guys that have sex with gay men for money) and other such instances. Let us not get sidetracked and misrepresent the entire gay community. Yes there are a few persons out there such as you have described. Let me assure you, they are a minority within the gay community. finekameo 11-10-05, - 09:19 PM The primary place that gay children loose and/or lack love and attention is when they decide to be honest with themselves and their families and they opt to openly identify themselves as homosexual.
