Anybody that knows the history of the Bahamas knows that the FNM inherited a hole. When you inherit a hole, most of your time is spent trying to fill that hole. When the FNM came to power they adopted a cancer of a society. Bahamians expected all of the PLP inflected wounds to heal overnight. You don't repair 25 years of damage overnight. My point was, Bahamians are so shortsighted that they didn't understand the process of sacrifice before gain or walking before flight. People so self-interested fought the process of repairing the country as a whole that the people interested in helping the country as a whole just gave up. And left. Love it or hate it. I am not interested in returning to a people that don't understand the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. If that's how we'll play....then I'm fine with it. I can be just as self-interested. But don't feel bitter when you and the country are floating down the toilet because there are no qualified Bahamians willing to take the reins and reintroduce integrity, values, and pride to a moral void of hedonism and self-service. Boy I tell ya.There is none so blind as those who refuse to see. Great Demos 11-27-05, - 05:40 PM I wish I had seen this thread before now. After reading the last two pages, thoughts are running through my mind at 1 million MPH!!! Sometimes I believe that our leaders are masters of Divide and Conquer. Why is it that intelligent people would discuss important subjects on this board and end up cussing out one another or calling each other ill names!? I believe if we just exercise a bit more patience and try to really understand where each other is coming from, we would really understand each other and come to grips with the problems! I also believe that if we don't be very careful and require that our leaders update our form of governance and put more checks and balances into the system, we'd just be going around that old "mountain" forever without really getting anywhere, NO MATTER WHICH PARTY IS IN POWER!!! This lack of proper governance plus the conglomeration of other issues which have slowly been allowed to accumulate over the years are what is triggering the majority of our problems!!! It is dividing and conqueroring us!!! I also believe that the main reason why Haitian immigrants have a difficulty blending with our culture is that their culture is very different from ours in that their laws, their way of life, their language and their religion (mostly) are quite different from ours! This is why, for what its worth, I believe that immigrants from places like Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, etc, and most of the other English-speaking West-Indies countries would blend more readily into our culture than immigrants from Haiti! Their language, customs, laws and religion are pretty much like ours! So when we take into consideration all the issues we have to contend with and the fact that our leaders are refusing to solve them, or are taking too long to solve them, I can fully understand why we are having a brain drain in this fair country! What do you think of these views!? Tafadhali 11-27-05, - 05:47 PM I wish I had seen this thread before now. After reading the last two pages, thoughts are running through my mind at 1 million MPH!!! What do you think of these views!? My problem isn't the politicians. I learned a long time ago that a politician is nothing more than a glorified public servant. No politician is greater than the public he serves. He/she is an employee. The problem is, the employee has hundreds of thousands of bosses. If you ever want to be more useless in your life -- try satisfying the needs of several bosses at once. The only way any politician is of value is if he or she serves a single boss. That's the problem. Bahamians aren't focused on a single goal. There is no unity. No loftier goal that they wish to accomplish. Every individual has some sort of attention deficiency. I agree that there is a divide, but I don't agree that there is a conquer. A conquest suggest that there is an outside force impeding its will on a weaker yet still resistant force. There is no outside force. This is a civil war. A self-destructive force that I think I've grown tired of fighting. There are times in battle when you have to no when to retreat. By retreating you still let the self-destructive force win -- but at least you have something left to salvage. I wanted to at least walk away with the ability to salvage a future for myself and family. Great Demos 11-27-05, - 10:11 PM My problem isn't the politicians. What I am trying to say is that the way our government is setup and the way our politicians operate cause much of our problems! In your case I fully agree with your stance and what you did. Of course if I am having difficulty to secure a good job and to make ends meet in my country, I will re-locate -- why not? Will anyone against my re-locating be willing to supply my needs? I agree there is no outside force causing the problem -- it is mostly us, and as you have said there is no unity among us! But WHY is there this lack of unity and who is feeding it? Its been with us forever and by now I would have thought we would have been a more united people. But we have 3 or 4 different political parties with large groups of strong followers who are ready to cuss you out or even maim you at the drop of a hat for the mere fact that you are not a follower of their party or you don't agree with some of their party's policies! So we have an enviroment of disharmony, disunity, strong disagreements, which does not augur well for a well-ordered society. Seems to me that since they want to hang together so closely all the time, they should enjoy a short visit back home! Not having worked or attended school or lived (for long periods) in any other country it would be hard for me to visualize what I would do. I am wondering if these students stick together mostly because they live close together and or attend the same university? Come to think about it, maybe it is the language barrier which causes the Haitians to stick together so much! But I believe if I decide to live or attend school in another country and there is no language barrier and no other Bahamians around, I would try to make friends with a few people with whom I have something in common like a hobby or profession. Don't quite understand why the Bahamians don't want to mix a little with the English folks! Rory 11-27-05, - 11:08 PM they thought i was an american when i first moved to the UK .. called me yank .. wasnt any bahamians around that i could tell .. maybe different now .. and different location, i was down south, then in london, all paki and indian where i lived in london. de redhead 11-27-05, - 11:21 PM Its nice to keep your Bahamian culture and customs, etc, but I wonder why they don't want to come home for Christmas. Ignorance. Before ignorance breeds hate or fear, it breeds selfishness. Selfishness breeds hate and fear then you have all of the lovely side affects like disagreement and disunity. Politicians are a product of the same society, so selfishness is something that they are inclined to. |
