Huhh?? I had a gas station hot dog for dinner tonight
Rory, be careful and take the advice of a friend. A couple months ago one of my sons suffered food poisoning from a hot dog breakfast from a gas station. He spent a couple weeks in the hospital!!!

…Im talking about Kerzner either one.
When I was in undergrad I remember telling a teacher about my country and Atlantis and how it was owned by a white S. African and she just gave this puzzled look. I thought about it recently and it came to me one early morning and I guess I figures out what her “look” meant.
Shame came over me, I dont mean to alienate any white Bahamians with this statement but they have their money already, the reality that black people don’t own nothing is this country is sickening. The little that we do, our BLACK leaders would like to take it from us and give it away all in the name of the “foreign investment”.
“owned by a white south African” is just six words but it can be viewed so many ways.
Some Bahamians may think
The rich white man
“Bossman”
Atlantis
But I think:
product of Zulu territory stolen by white people
S.Africa and their history of apartheid- what makes me think a white man from their comes to another black majority country and doesn’t feel the same and tink the about Black people in another land
Foreignor getting more out of our leaders than Bahamians
Atlantis- why cant I or any other natural born Bahamian of any hue realize this dream in my own land?
Billionaire (if he is) why my country ‘s “leaders” don’t think enough of Bahamians so maybe one day we also can have numerous millionaires and wealthy billionaires gone to bed.
Something is deftly wrong with this picture. Who really owns this nation?
Tia, this thing goes back perhaps long before you were born. I just hailed a good friend of mine today and we chatted briefly on the same subject.
He has a son who learned the electrical trade straight from high school. Worked a number of years doing electrical installations in homes and buildings and even learned plumbing and general building skills in the process. For a few years he started his own electrical business, but got fed up and stopped because too many customers owed him too much money. In case you did not know it we gat some very bad paying black Bahamians!!!
Long years ago, when the Bahamas started producing top-notched black auto mechanics, even before the era of the late Fred Mitchell Sr and the late Six Jones, there were mechanics trying to work on their own, but could not make it. WHY, oh Why!!!??? It was because people of their own colour were owing them money and would not pay, that's why!!! This non-payment to their own colour for services rendered is a disease we have that has been a stumbling block to us for as long as I can remember!!!
Many of those mechanics had to go right back to their former white employers from whom they learned their trade and practically beg them to be rehired! The talk was that, "our own people would not pay us but they would pay the white man even more for the same service we offer!" Why is this!? Why don't we try to learn to do business and try to solve this problem!!!??? I believe there are some white business owners who would even try to teach us!
I often wondered what would it be like if Alantis was owned by a group of black Bahamian business men!? If they did not have sound knowledge of business administration, economics, accounting and banking, or didn't hire personnel with expertise in these fields, the business would fail!
And for sure, we can't expect the politicians to help us with this situation. They just want the status quo to continue. If you think they would like to see a bunch of black multi millionaires and business owners 'roun here in the Bahamas, you better think again! Marichal said it best when he said that we can't expect better conditions whether it be a PLP or FNM govt, because both of those parties are corrupt. They just eeen checking for the poor! Just a bunch of Great Pretenders!
For a long time I have been hoping and praying that this poor attitude among many of us would change so that we can enjoy the abundant life that the Lord has brought to this earth. And I'd like to see it happen during my lifetime. I think that we just have to decide what we want to do, acquire the necessary skills, get a job, sacrfice, tough it out and gradually go into business for yourself. Start small, start from scratch!
I would not even tell my friends or even the bank. I don't need any discouragement, or anyone stealing my ideas!!!

Yeah.
Its about Bahamians feeling that they should do a favor for a favor. Rather than an objective form of bartering like working for pay and paying for the work. After awhile that sort of thinking drained the Bahamas, so we had to go outside.
Problem is....its continuing and nobody seems to be learning the lessons of the past.
