That's another reason (his wife and his actual position in the PLP are others) why I'm sorta tossed on whether he's actually gonna join the PLP. I would hope that he isn't going to desert his own party, but the rumours on the street are flying thick like mosquitoes in Andros.
He would be a valuable asset to the PLP. Some sort of merger could be in the works, maybe? I need more info.
Plus, he's not getting any younger.

a merger huh? hmm
I am not sure if that would fit well with Fayne Thompson and others...
But then again....who they is anyways?

Holy Cross, cause Sidney Stubb's frontline politcal days are numbered. He's a piece of the "deadwood" that Christie is gonna chop off.

Interesting....
against Carl Bethel....
I know many FNMs wouldn't like that....

Has anyone notice how religious the PLP convention is? Its so churchy? What are they trying to portray?

I noticed the same thing.

Smart strategy though. Keep the people in "church" where they will hear the "same message" every Sunday. Never doubt the power that these pastors have over their various congregations.

If this is what our country is coming to - overtly religious governance - I definitely will become a brain drain statistic and do a Sidney Poitier to boot. Or if I stay it will become very easy to figure out who to vote for.

Separation of church and state is a priority, in my opinion. Some persons will take this as an insult, but ever notice how the most "religious" people here in the Bahamas tend not to be very intelligent and are often "easier to control"?

Simple strategy. Simple results.

1 more thing that will probably invoke the ire of a few:

Our Minister of National Security should not be giving a sermon. Wait a sec - she's about to do an alter call.

I was waiting for the alter call.

I have been watching the so call PLP 'convention' and found out that i was in church. I don't have anything against church but what about governance. It isn't the chuch that is paying our Ministers in the goverment. By the way mother pratt sermon might be useful, for God knows the PLP is filled with men of unethical and possibly criminal leaning. All she needs now is to call upon all the rapist to come to the altar. who do you think would come forward?

Haaaaaaaaaaa. I hate to admit it, but you have a point. You know what, maybe the folks on Bahamasissues.com need to come together and form a political party, because the untapped brillance, depth, and diversity of the people on this site, is outstanding!

I had to look at the name of this thread twice before responding, since my comments are a little off point. However, instead of starting a new thread, I will simply say something here.

Last night, I had a conversation with my BF about religion and how it 'keeps us in chains'. This conversation came up after I had spoken to a close family member, who told me I had 'gone off into the world and formed big world views'! Now, I dont know where this person formed this view, since we were talking about work, but anyway.

I just wonder whether people can see the harm in our 'Preachers Preaching Hate (from the Pulpit)'. Because the way I see it, the messages regarding the death penalty, immigration and homosexuality are wholly inconsistent with a preacher's job (in that, they always put a political spin on it). Has anyone ever stopped to question why these religious 'leaders' find it abosolutely necessary to control our minds? Why is it that the poorest people are giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to the church and living in poverty? my BF couldnt believe the scriptures preached to us to support giving tithes to the church. he's catholic italian and claims there would be a riot if the churches in italy tried that sh!t. why can't church-goers cannot see the institution for what it is, and see how rich they make the pastors? how can church-goers be catchin a ride to church, yet argue so strongly reasons why their pastor needs a jet? when did Bahamasair and other airlines become 'not good enough'? why do christians always through this 'I will have riches in heaven' stuff at you when you point out their financial situation? how come when you question the bible's content, you are called a heathen and told "you have been in the world too long"? WTF does THAT mean? is that why the pastors try to enslave our brains before we go abroad for education? im am furious that people can be so stupid. Jesus would encourage independent thought and critical thinking (sorry to quote clint). but God does not want us to be stupid! All i can say is that the church is guilty of a massive sin...the sin of capitvating people's minds and perpetrating a huge fraud. cause they way i see it, if you are a messenger of God, you teach his lessons. you dont make political speeches from a Holy pulpit and you CERTAINLY dont become a politician...im sorry to hi-jack the thread, but its something i feel very strongly about.

I was at convention hall observing the activity on yesterday, and I ran into a former PLP cabinet minister that I knew who confirmed to me that BJ and Perry had reached an agreement and that BJ Nottage was likely to appear at the convention on tonight.

Such is the plight of this nation.

Be forewarned that your words are blasphemy in some person's eyes - no joke! If you were here, they already would have called the prayer group to hold you down and pray for you. :voodoo:
