Did you catch Minister Neville Wisdom's speach: Dream Bahamas! Which FNM speach could compare?

Like I said, I have been disappointed that BOTH conventions were not more future focused. That is not to say that some ministers that spoke did not discuss the future, but for the most part, they were taking their shots at the competition - which is cool - but homey you gotta show the 20% how you plan to deal with and manage the future.

As I also said, the PLP should NOT USE PLP MONEY to spread a government's message - that is dumb and shows what we all know, that during the term, they didn't effectively get their message out and now have to do it at convention. Give summaries yes, but all speeches should be about the remaining months and NOT a recap of the previous ones.

Dear inconsolable,

Not sure if we were watching the same convention....but the government ministers have be quite forthcoming with their plans for the various ministries. Yes they re-cap the success of the past 3.5 years and that is expected. Their intent in doing so is to show that they are working on the promises made in the 'Our Plan' document.

But, they are also giving insights to future developments and initiatives for The Bahamas. Many of us tend to tune these out if it does not correlate or directly affect our take home paychecks - within the next few months.

Finally, when official political parties are formed, the constitution allows for financial considerations directly from the public treasury for them (political parties) to promote their agendas. Also, as the PLP is the government of the day, they must tout their accomplishments to the electorate in order to gain and maintain favor. How else would we know who is better to lead us?

Ma beuy, you are missing my point. I'll say it this way, if were Chairperson of the PLP, I would not use the limited resources of the party to promote something that legally I could use government dollars for. Whatever little money that the treasury gives each party could be used on a Party innitiative and not a government one. Looking at it from a FINANCIAL perspective, it would have saved the PLP money, or at least gotten a desired message out more than at a bloody convention.

The ministers dedicate 1/8 of their speech at best to highlight, HIGHLIGHT ie cursorily mention, what they plan to do. People interpret information differently though, so that's your view.

Hi Jessup,

I myself tend to tune these things (speeches of politicians) out, when we see the same old conditions not being improved much, the bad roads, the crime, the youth gangs, the malfunctioning traffic lights...the list goes on...

Everyday, you still see many motor bikes speeding down traffic laden streets on one wheel, something Mother Pratt promised to put a stop to in one of her first speeches in Parliament! Why are they taking so long to do anything?

But there is the Urban Renewal Program, probably one of the best things the PLP has done this time around. Hopefully this will straighten some of the mess!
