View Full Version : The Lottery can be used for so many good tings
Tafadhali 11-15-05, - 10:18 PM Florida to date hass contributed 15 billion dollars towards it Education system due to contributions from their lottery system. we need this. Im not ssaying we could make that amount of money but who knows? I am so tired of hearing that education is the "lions share" of the "unbalanced" budget till its sickening. The Bahamas Lottery Commission could institute a breakfast and lunch system in the school (creating jobs and insuring our school children have no excuse not to have their thinking caps on). It could also fund a school bus system (insuring jobs and safety of the children traveling to and from school). Man I wish our tin potcake banana leaders could see this for themselves.

well, have you ever thought that maybe they can (see it for themselves)? maybe they dont want the benefits a lottery would bring - thats why they let the church talk! afterall, a lottery means more money to be accounted for! more money that will (hopefully) go towards health care, education, the overall well-being of bahamian people! can you imagine a nation of educated people! OMG :screw: all the old politicians will have a run for their money! their children will no longer be the only ones with a decent education! the gap will grow smaller! eek! hmmmmmm....im feeling like the devil's advocate today.

I cant believe this is the reality in our country. I understand that all parents want the best for their children but this is no different that separate but equal. Bahamian teachers shoould consider reading up on Jonathan Kozol and what he says. he sure enlightened me, even made me think about being a teacher for 2.2 seconds. If nothing at all the lottery could and would help fund education, that's isa good idea that should not simply be relegated to what the "pimps in the pulpit" think.

We back to this again! It is not the 'pimps in the pulpit' that dictates whether we have a lottery or not. the so called 'pimps in the pulpit' only gives their opinion on it. It is the 'pimps in parliament' who determine whether we going to have a lottery. And they have collectively shouted no! Why? Because it is not profitable for them to legalize it.
If gambling is legalize, politicians will no longer be able to get their pay checks padded, better yet donations to the party, or finance for unexpected situations, like monies for CoB and their computers, like financial relief for the straw vendors after the fire, like supplies and funds after the hurricane in Freeport.
We in the Bahamas must realize that there are politicians who own number houses.

On both sides of the political divide.

maybe the pimps in the pulpit will stop barking when they realize that the pimps in parliament are hedging their "bets" on their mouths.it seems you know a little more than what I perceived you to be...please name them (the politicians)
in a legitimate Bahamas we have to take the high road and this is one of the ways. All of those unexpected situations you suggessted are grounds that could be funded within the lottery system than can be usedd for som many good tings.

One must realize, that a politician main objective is to be re-elected, not to do "good things." When one analyse and question how a member of parliament earning $40K to $60k a year can leave government a millionaire after 10 to 20 years and yet does not possess an investment portfolio, one must question where they getting the money from.

I know that, I just cant beleive how bold and outrageous these people could be. The gov't doesnt really have the legislation in place to dictate conflicts of interest or a governing body who is accountable and swift enough in dealing with these rogue scoundrels of government. premeptive strikes need to be implemented so things like this need stop happening. Look at the visa project foolishness (Bahamian.ebloggy.com) so many people have to go to jail or lose their jobs, but it has to happen. rod smith was a start.

This is easy to understand, they award themselves and each other Government contracts. Brent awarded an airport contract to himself, that is why we should be wary of him, not because he is white. The thing is, he still maintains that he did nothing wrong, he probably thinks that his father never did anything wrong either.

there is a conflict of interest true indeed, but could you care to elaborate on why he felt he did nothing wrong?
what did his father do to us?
we just need verification that's all, ,makes no sense of having opinions and they aren't based in fact, if that's the case.

And that's unfortunate.

Well Tia this is the Bahamas and Brent is a lawyer, and many in govt are lawyers. Lawyers can always think up some tricky law to clear themselves from most matters. Even the Judge would probably be on their side!
Lawyers een like you and me, they can get away with many things. Seems like its an old boy's club. How many times have you seen a lawyer hauled before the courts for any crime!?
No wonder when our Lord walked the earth he criticized lawyers so severely: "Woe unto you lawyers...."
Some on this board don't believe the Bible, but if you study some of the prophecies, you will see that they are almost like reading today's newspapers!

im gonna go out on a limb here and relegate the dubious nature of lawyers in the Bahamas to our politically corrupt and antiquated climate. Half the sh!t done here wouldnt even fly in the any where else because its so blatant and we Bahamians are so blind ( for lack of better words). "Quieting of Claims" now come on "oh great one"
