I am very sorry for thoes who have lost everything, but I am sure most of them came to the Bahamas with nothing. If they are not leagle to stay :cop: , then send them back. Kids or no kids. Im sure they will survive. As for the leagle ones, give them as much help as possible.:cop:

Seems this gov't just realized that there are illegal immigrants, but they are all the fault of past governments!

[QUOTE=Rt. Hon. P. G. Christie]
"Governments in the past have refused or failed to deal with the issue and there has just been an accumulative effect, more and more people coming in," said Mr. Christie, who held a press conference before leaving for London – and then it’s on to Malta for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.

"Now that we’ve had this message, this reminder that it is a potential disaster every day, we cannot allow any expansion of that community and as a matter of strict policy we are going to prohibit any reconstruction in that area which means therefore that we have to find another way of dealing with the issue of people who are living there."

This mishap just goes to show how few people don't appreciate foreigners in their country and the extent goes to show how evil some of them really are. A Christian nation please! No offense but I'm a Bahamian and what happened there was nothing neigbourly about it!

Today in a radio news report a male living in the mud at the time of the fire and obviously of Haitian descent ( but spoke with a Bahamian accent) was complaining about the VOLUNTEER fire fighters and it seemed his opinion was that they hadn't tried hard enough to control the fire..apparently he had had a "few words" with one (fire fighter) and told the reporter point blank that if there hadn't been other people around HE WOULD HAVE KILLED THE FIRE FIGHTER!!!! Imagine that! SQUATTING on Bahamian land, building houses that are no where near up to standard, expecting BAHAMIANS to risk their lives to save houses built feet apart with propane tanks exploding inside and saying to the public that had there been no witnesses he would have killed a volunteer fire fighter!!! Now who thinks that if there is another fire in that area, that volunteers should go in there..It is waaaaayy out of control!! Should this person be held or questioned or something by the police???

Are laws not meant to be questioned? Doesn't our government have the moral conviction to consider a persons basic human rights?

The law is supreme not any "international organization and human rights entities" they have their own agenda and must the Government of the Bahamas being the Bahamian people and the law which takes into consideration human rights.

At the expense of our own human rights, stability and prosperity?

Never.

The Bahamian government has an obligation to the citizens of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, first and foremost.

Bahamians seem to have forgotten this fact. Especially Bahamians who are out of the country and are not here to see the growing number of illegal immigrants.

Whether they are "legal" or "illegal" immigrants (or even Bahamians), those persons are illegally squatting in the Mud and Pigeon Pea settlements. What's truly amazing is that in the presence of government authorities, those persons do not make any attempt to hide their illegal activity anymore! That young man actually should have been hiding from the camera, for he does not own that land, nor was he given permission to build or live on it. Bahamians and the Bahamian government really need to wake up to what we are allowing to happen here in our country! They have NO right to be on that land. The fire started the process of getting them out of there - the government needs to finish it.

The truth hurts sometimes and anyone who opposes the opinion of clearing out that settlement is guilty of allowing a foreign element to openly and brazenly circumvent laws that Bahamians are harshly penalized for. (Example: Try adding another bedroom to your house without proper permits and watch how quickly the Ministry of Public Works and Utilities will stop the average BAHAMIAN).

I rest my case.

(Ya'll is really yuk up my vexation sometimes ya know. This is our country - Please, at the very least, act like it is!)

I agree with the part of them being there illegally. But you are wrong to say finish it, clearly you support murder.Being that harsh can just sometime stir up trouble from foreigners the government won't appreciate. You know an eye for an eye! There are other ways to show that you have control in your country! But as we all see the goverment on their own agenda!

What have you been smoking?

How can you compare murder to the simple enforcement of the laws of The Bahamas by sending illegals home and stopping them from squatting on government land without permission?

And if they believe that enforcing our laws is being harsh and that they have the right to stir up trouble because of that enforcement, THEY do not need to be in this country!

This is a nation based upon democratic principles and ANY threat to the stability of this nation and safety of its citizens will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. Any group who dares to threaten this country's civilized approach to the challenges within our society will be ostracized. The Bahamas cannot afford to become another Haiti, where people riot and pillage because they do not get their own way! They need to learn to respect the laws of the Bahamas, first and foremost.

You cannot be a born and bred citizen of this Bahamas and be that oblivious to our government's glaring generousity in allowing them to squat on that land for so long without any due recourse.

What is so difficult to understand about it, really? The laws of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas forbid any citizen or non citizen to build any dwelling without proper permission from the Bahamian government. Is enforcing that law definable as murder?

Don't be ridiculous!

Anything is subject to question but aren’t "laws not meant" to be enforced?

The government has no moral conviction; the Church and other organizations as such do. The convection for the government is that of the law.

No LLB needed to figure this out.
