Let’s talk about the future. The PLP and FNM Conventions are over; they were both like dramatic soap operas. Highlights for me were the surprise election of Brent Symonette to deputy leader, the election of Hubert Ingraham to lead the FNM again and the grace under pressure of Tommy Turnquest and Dion Foulks as FNMs and the general public were not ready for a new generation of leaders.
On the PLP side, three things stood out in my mind in terms of impact; the return of Dr. Bernard Nottage from the CDR, how effectively the Prime Minister put to rest the ‘Do nothing and indecisive Government talk’ with a vision that was clear, impressive and factual on paper and how effectively the PLP Convention used video images and music to share its message.
The leaders have spoken and the dramas are now over, its time for the people to talk and let me add dialogue about the future. Talk is PLP and FNM propaganda, dialogue is when you listen and ask questions with a view to being better informed and open to change.
I sometimes find that FNMs and PLPs talk at each other because both parties have programmed their people to think in certain ways and more importantly the ‘Torch’ and ‘Hand’ have become mental positions. Our collective futures and the future of our country are bigger than both parties. Let’s become a smarter society by learning how to talk and dialogue about the future.
What do you think, what are the real issues you will be voting on in this election and do you think the leaders on both sides have it right?
