Nice. But since Paypal doesnt deal with bahamians, legally, how did you manage that?
YorickBrown 11-20-05, - 10:12 AM Hey Rory and Delroy,
Look at how things cycle round eh? Remember my auction site, BahamasAuctions.com about 3-4 years ago? Man, that was a complete disaster!
Bahamians just weren't ready. Plus, it only took one or two crooked Bahamians to start posting fake items like they were on crack, trying to make money from non-existent products.
Maybe Bahamians are ready now though. Isn't this the second auction site that we've seen in less than a month?
martbla 11-20-05, - 06:58 PM The Site accepts paypal for international sellers and it has 2Checkout for Credit Cards for the Bahamas. Some Sellers use bidpay to accept credit card payments as well so that no credit card information is given directly to the seller, but for the most part we are combating fraud by using Cash on Delivery Methods. There will be alot of other features to come soon that will make the buying and selling experience even better.

It's good that you have thought ahead in that regard.
One idea that I never got the chance to implement was a "pre-sign-up" card, which is:
A regular sized card or "credit card" with the website's address, plus a pre-approved username and password can be handed out to facilitate sign-ups.
It's an idea that some auction site owners in the US have found to be quite successful.

i still dont think the Bahamas is ready for ecommerce, it has a long way to go. Even as it stands, Bahamians would rather fly to Miami then to buy local at the same end cost. They feel Bahamian is inferior products, for some reason, even though they come "through" the US and from Asia generally, depending what it is.
I would hope it changes and is ready soon enough, will see what happens. Im selling to the US for now though, as there is a larger market there.

well I have been using it for a few years now.I signed up and became verified when I was off to school a few years ago and becave very active on ebay.I will only be using paypal and 2checkout for auction listing fees when they are eventually implimented.
martbla 11-20-05, - 09:04 PM I think The Bahamas is ready for ecommerce at this time, but we are not to the point where we can trust a Bahamian entity we cannot see.Bahamains do alot of business online, they wire transfer thousands of dollars to Japanese Car Websites daily.I think it's just a matter or 2 things Credibility and most importantly word of mouth. Most of the people who have made purchases on the website are return customer, which shows once Bahamians buy and they gain a sense of value they return.
I just dont see myself making a living off selling goods to the local market alone. I can easily get thousands of US clients online, but only minimal local clients.
nativestew 11-21-05, - 09:10 AM I Must say that Im surprised by so much scepticism regarding Bahamians and there online capabilities. I went to this auction website...bidbahamas.net...and found it refreshing. Something new for a change. I like the site and it was easy to use. I actually just won and auction a few days ago. I paid in cash but found out that I could have used the credit card or money order options.
I personally believe that the Bahamas is ready and that the only reason we arent on the same level as Barbados is because so many people say that Bahamians arent ready as if we are 'slow'.
Three Cheers To You Martbla. I Pray for Your Success.
However, I would suggest that you advertise more.
Best Regards
Happy BidBahamas User

That sounds like a very good Idea Yorick it may prove to be effective here as well.
gian_18778 11-23-05, - 01:26 PM Man, I like to hear things like this w/ our young Bahamians. e-Commerce has not reached its full potential at home, but I feel that eventually it will.
Went to the site and found it very interesting to say the least.
It's up to the younger generation to *force* the hand of the country. The *old-folk* are just to slow in this new era of competiveness, and think to small.
