Shakita 04-18-06, - 12:13 AM she gained broader insight into the Bahamian vernacular? that is right! Im a newcomer, still learning about the people's culture, folklore and language in general. I dont hear slangs often, but when I do I will know what they mean. DaPrincess 04-20-06, - 01:03 AM Another high school classic: "Miss, you look so nice, I'd move outta my ma house fer you!" Nah das a gud laff!....Cause ya kno it een no tru! Has anyone heard any of the ole ppl say ....."go back down cunta butta way ya livin" Or like I heard the other day an elderly lady said... "des chirren is no-gustin bad" I know about "DISGUSTIN" but not "NO-GUSTIN"...laughs for days! Or like I have heard some of the island people say...."I een bin kno" for I didnt know. RockWell 04-20-06, - 10:06 AM I don't know if this is slang, but it is a bad habit we seem to have fallen into. I heard it from the speech from the throne, I heard it again tonight on the news - all said by government officials and newscasters. It has to do with water! Drinking water is called "potable water" not "portable water." Potable water means it is drinkable. Portable means to carry. How can we trust people to make our water drinkable when they don't even know the correct word to use? That's Island talk ma men,you forget you was always rich aye?Muse dn't know bout drawin water from the well in da pot. :) Mloc 05-01-06, - 10:53 PM We een jus no dialeck no more, we gat our own language now.
