lets talk about the weather .. wonder if its going to be cold again tonight, feels a little warmer now ..
Well Rory I right on the water & my thermostat reading 70. Shiverss.
casualobserver 11-25-05, - 08:28 PM I am a young voter, and I will not support the FNM in the next elections, just for the simple facts that they brought back a washed-up politician, instead of a younger vibrant leader.
Not wanting to start any :wipe: , but how effective a leader was TT if he couldn't bring his own party together with half the passion that HI has injected. The FNM is a new beehive, full of activity because they have a much better shot at winning the election than they would with Tommy. I'm not saying that I'm an HI fan, but you have to admit that he's injected a lot of energy and optimism in the party.
I think Ingraham did ok, but his time is over, I would condemn the PLP, if after Christie leaves, they don't promote someone from a younger generation for leader of that party.
Who, exactly, is he grooming for the position? Rigby doesn't have the clout, AM-G and GH-M are both approaching the menopausal years, Pinder - well we don't have to discuss that one.
But as I see it now, the PLP is the party for the youth, and respects the youth.
When you're about to vote for them. Both parties have been guitly of this
I personally heard Frank Watson say on Immediate Response with Darold Miller when asked about the potential in the youth in politics, he said, " Neither the FNM or the PLP has any vibrant youths that I think can handle the Leadership now or for quite some time, Ingraham is the only man who can do it now. The youth don't have it right now."
How is this untrue?
That was a slap in the face to every young person in this country.
Look neither party has put much effort into grooming the next generation leaders. If they did, the national average would be better than a D. In order for leaders to lead effectively, they don't need a bunch of dummies following like lambs. Why? Because when life throws a curve ball, like 9/11 and hurricanes, the sheep can't think or do for themselves so they start bleating to the leaders. Leaders pave the way, but the followers have to be able to widen the trail and support the new initiatives. Policy makers won't venture too far in front if the followers can't keep up. The piss poor educational system, allowed to fester for all these years has damaged the country's ability to move forward and bring the youth into the lead. This isn't a personal attack, your statements prove that you are one of the exceptions to the rule as everyone has the ability educate oneself beyond the provided curriculum. But I know you can think many people that fit the description.
I can't vote for that, and let's face it, all parties mess up at times, but the PLP has done alot in this term, they got my vote this election.
Chacun son gout, mon amie. It's your choice and you're passionate about your allegiances and opinions. There's nothing wrong with that as long as your opinions are rooted in fact.

Come on now CO,even Stevie Wonder could see that the financial backers didn't put their money behind TT.And now that Salt & Pepper in charge(big Lol @ this doe, cause if you look @ that saying its truly telling.Every one know what color salt is).But I digress, the facts are TT never had the backing of the movers & shakers behind the FNM's throne.

Then TT wasn't a leader. A real leader gets the backing because the movers, shakers, peers and subordinates have confidence in him. This is not an age thing, or a black thing, or a white thing. This is a human thing; people are attracted to those that have the charisma, decisivness, and fortitude to stand up and lead. But those that lead live in a dog eat dog world. If there is a challenger that is more appealing to the masses, then the stock of the leader goes down. Natural selection.
You can't make a leader, you can only refine the leadership qualities within. There needs to be enough raw materials to work with though. TT just needs some more polishing maybe. TT is a great guy and will, no doubt, make an excellent leader. He just needs to work through the apprentice program some more.
de redhead 11-25-05, - 09:13 PM Personally I think that the combination of Hubert Ingraham and Brent Symonette will give The FNM a better shot in 2007 but will hurt them long term. No matter what any of you beleives, or more to the point say that you believe, Mr. Symonette will polarize the electorate, not because he is white but because of who his father was and what he represented. If The FNM thinks that The eastern road dollars are enough to overcome that they will have a rude awakening come election night.
I know that Brent would like to be Pime Minister, and that is an admirable ambition, but while every Bahamian should feel that they can one day become Prime Minister, I don't think that Mr. Symonette has a realistic chance. This is not because he is white, but because of what he represents. I could not expect to be Prime Minister if I were a known pedofile, and Brent Symonette cannot expect to become Prime Minister because in a lot of persons minds what his father did was almost as bad. If you are white and on this site, I would venture that you have a better chance of becoming Prime Minister than Mr Symonette (man or woman) that is just the way it is. But don't cry for Mr Symonette, I don't think he will miss the Prime Minister's salary, but then again he won't be able to award contracts to anymore of his companies ......aw shucks! I really feel for him.

So could you be PM if your father was a pedophile, or would you prefer to be judged as an individual? How about if your father killed someone in a car accident, you couldn't get a driver's licence? Maybe your cousin stole a soda when he was a kid, so now you don't get to drink anything. You see how ridiculous this is getting, don't you?
As for awarding contracts to his own company, tell me what percentage of the company he owned. How many qualified contractors could have bid on the job? The answers are 7 and 2.
Now tell me how many construction companies exist on the island and why the largest financial contributor to the PLP won that contract. While you're at it, tell me how it is better to receive a kickback from a contractor instead of investing in a company in a fair market?

rumrunner 11-25-05, - 09:52 PM To me this thread got a little off track from the beginning. But as usual the parts about old UPB and racism have bounced back again. So for some of you who post the boards and blogs I would like to post some points and comments that I made earlier.
For the record my main concern is the economy, long term, because with out it we will all, white or black, UBP or FNM and PLP, suffer.
Anyway for those that hold the philosphy of racism:
What I cannot figure out and maybe someone can enlighten me as to what the the supposed old UBP families would gain by winning an election? If there were some benefit then I would see the relationship to the racists comments. Do people really think that these people are the bogey man, and would have the money and ability to reverse 30+ years of majority rule. If these persons wanted to trash this country they could have done it back in 1967. They could have said piss on this majority rule and carried every last penny they had out of here. Now if this had happened we would not be looking at 2 billion in debt it probably would have be closer to 8 or 9 billion.
To me it is sad that these persons have to endure this foolishness for so many years when in fact if they are the racists we are led to beleive and left the country we would be much more worse off than we are today.
And for those who beleive the UBP is still alive and well:
this old Monty Python skit came into mind. I have modified it just a little.
'It's not pinin'! 'it's passed on! This UBP is no more! It has ceased to be! it's expired and gone to meet 'its maker! 'it's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'it rests in peace! 'It's metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'it's off the twig! 'it's kicked the bucket, 'it's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-PARTY!!

Lol @ your post, have you ever heard of MONEY, POWER & RESPECT.As to the taking your money & running dn't you think it's better to be a big fish in a little pond than a little fish in a big pond.FYI: The UBP does still exist in the form of the FNM,my question to you is why do you try to pretend that its not so?Aren't they a Bahamian political party & dn't they have the right to run for govt. What I dn't get is why do people behave like the politicans who where in the UBP aren't in politics today, although it's more in the background now.
Tingum 11-25-05, - 10:18 PM Tennyson Wells said on immediate response that Brent won by a minority vote, is that a fact? or should I add that to the unsolved mysteries of politricks?:gi: :gi:
