Namaste;
I find it interesting that you have read the biography of malcom x, The pale horse By william cooper and The browder Files, what made you read these i wonder? ( these are very heavy books which are on flipmode squad reading list)
Tupac Makaveli is a very interesting story, i use to sit out on the porche and meditate to it, you should read the book the prince and Macheville, and i would throw in the Art Of War By sun TZu translated by Thomas cleary.

bein lost in a sea of lies,i knew many persons older than myself who were disciples of the man El haag Malik Shabazz PBUHN.People who knew him said one thing about him and others quoted what the media said,i heard that the author of the television movie "ROOTS" Alex haley did a day 2 day biography of the man and i thought that he is a reliable source so i went 2 the book store and bought it,read the whole thing in 4 hrs,findin-out that he was a real man of humanity, compassion, understandin and goodwill toward the human race, which is very different from what TV would have you believe,i'm usually posted-up in those hall-ways str8 from the source cause i luv learnin and sharin,it's no fun bein decieved @ any rate but 2 be decieved @ all human endeavors and trained 2 be passive and submissive along with swallowin outright lies, the fact that we (Black ppl)is @ one another throats all the time and we don't trust ourselves,we trust everybody-else,i wonder why?why our families are soooo fragmented?and so i had 2 find-out who i am and my purpose .

i-omega, Its wonderful to encounter another being that is engaged in the process of knowledge of self. You remind me of Earth Gods, the Five Percenters i use to post messages with.
You are so right about the sea of lies, I had been getting on tadafa about depth in her threads, for instance most people do not read, we watch movies and listen to music as our means of info recreation, thus it should really be best books, cds/tapes/records (she may be to young to rember records tho) and Movies. But once you expand your mind you begin to see so many dimensions to situations.
I am rereading The Auto Biography of Malcom X do you care to join, i am including it in the thread the essential theory and paraxis of national culture, i also have a book list there, which is being drawn on, i will be expanding it to include other mediums such as music, film painting as i have discovered that these are infested with truths.
By the way if you have not yet you have to get the speaches of Malcom x on tape, they are gold mines.
Are you in the states if you are there is an African student leadership conference in mississipi holly springs in jan.
Until the fire next time

What’s your favorite five cd’s and five books that changed the way you think and inspired you.
I have more than five bear with me ;)
1 oh the places we’ll go by dr. suess
(great graduation gift- light hearted and funny- the first book I read to my guy)
2 capitalism and slavery by dr. eric williams
3confessions of an economic hit man by john perkins
eye opening this turned me onto a eric toussaint’s the tyranny of global finance-( if I ever have the time to read all 400 pages of it its very intimidating- this time of year)
4.Message to the people by tony martin
Every black person should own this book!Im a “garveyite” because of this book- (They give him such a negative perception-mental slavery at it best the man was great and this was back in the 1920’s!)
5. our kind of people by lawrence graham-
the dynamics of black America is saddening
6. any iceberg slim book-
this is trash for the most part but it’s well written start with black mama widow- its so sad
Honourable mention(s) :
Malcolm gladwell- blink and the tipping point fast reads for me
John Grisham novels- he always intertwine the black experience in his works
Cane River by lalita Tademy I fell in love with Louisiana culture
the feast of all saints by anne Rice- who knew? is all I have to say

PRINCESS NUBIANS – THESE GIRLS ARE BAD I UNDERSTAND NOT A SINGLE
WORD BUT THE PRODUCTION IS AMAZING
Verve Remixed- Vol 1 (too funky)
Jeff Bradshaw- Soul Saxophonist- Bone Deep (move over Najee)
Celestine Prophecy - James Redfield
A very interesting look at life and human interaction, following the awakening of a sceptical journalist as he goes through 9 steps. Very simple to read and quite compelling.
Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea - Gary Kinder
True story of Tommy Thompson, a cornfed kid from the US who always looks at problem in a different way, solves them using unconventional methods and ultimately designs the first function submersible for the recovery of the USS Central America. The ship sank in 1950 with tons of gold after a heroic attempt to save passengers in a strong hurricane.
Nuts! - Kevin & Jackie Freiberg
The story of Southwest Airlines and its initial founder Herb Kelleher. His unconventional thinking created the fastest growing, fastest operating, happy corporation of its time. The business model that Jet Blue, Spirit and others have succesfully copied since. Excellent read for the business minded, even if its not airplane business you're interested in
What They Don't Teach You At Harvard Business School - Mark McCormack
Fairly self explanitory, I think. A little old and outdated now, but still good knowledge in any business environment
The Perfect Storm - Sebastian Junger
Everyone's seen the movie, but the book is much better. Junger is a talented writer and I enjoy his other works as well.
Not life changing, but still good
Master & Commander Series - Patrick O'Brien
Harry Potter Series - J.K. Rowling (good at any age, I think)
Anything by Clive Cussler (easy read, pageturner, same general plot though)
Anything by Tom Clancy (except the textbook training manuals)
Light in the Attic, Where the Sidewalk Ends -Shell Silverstein
SOLAS, MARPOL, ISPS, ISM - International Maritime Org (sleeping tablets of paper and ink)
Music
Bob Marley - anything and everything produced, recorded or played live
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Blues legend. I wish I had ¼ his talent playing the guitar
Snoop, Dre, DMX - Some songs are excellent, others not so good
Dave Matthews / John Mayer - Good pantystripper tunes
The Beatles - always have been and always will be a huge fan

had to resurrect the thread, i have now fallen in love with yet another genre of music...NERD-CORE RAP BABY!!!
favourite emcees:
mc chris: raps about topics from cough syrup to star wars battles. dude has skills. voice is annoying though.
Favourite track: fette's vette LINK TO SITE (http://www.mcchris.com)
ytcracker: coined the term nerd rap. raps about general nerd rap and samples old nintendo 8 bit audio. i like it.
Favourite track: meganerd LINK TO ALBUM (http://www.ytcracker.com/nes)
Dangerdoom: A collaborative effort of danger mouse and MF DOOM, mouse brings stellar production as always while doom raps about his favourite cartoons in his usual dark tone.
Favourite track: jury still out on that one LINK TO SITE (http://www.adultswim.com/promos/dangerdoom/occulthymn/index.html)

not all black people got riddum ok. I beat the goatskin drum. when I pick it up to play blacks would say 'white people can't beat'. den i lick out some strong junkanoo licks and leave em in shock. den I take the drum and pass it to the blacks and say now you try. man mos' a dem een know nuttin' bout beatin a drum. can't hit a lick dread or even keep time. lol.
ps. I een really white. I is what ya call a 'gopher'. meaning I could 'go for' white here in this society.
I listen to all music from all over the world. but mostly hard rock. too hard for the common man. lol.
I luv concious lyrics reggae but can't stand dance hall or rap. that stuff is just too poorly written and produced. not deep enough. not poetic enough.
meaningless, pointless and silly. dance hall and rap is also filled with so much hate, insults and put-downs and violence. jeese! pure crap.
I read Isaac Asimov.

i was right there with you when ya said hard rock, but then you just did a complete 180 right after that. it's cool..to each his own and i like Asimov's stories even though I havent read one in at least a year.
