Yep, there are talks about it...Junkanoo as a seperate subject. A subject you get tested on, and perhaps get a BGCSE grade on. What ya think? Should we go for it. God knows, Bahamians students need a subject which they can get an "A" in!

Utter garbage.

I cannot believe that any one would seriously put forth this idea.

If the ministry wanted students to get A's they should turn the department, with the power to higher fire and change policy to :bouncy: , i would do the job for $750,000 per year. i only need four years to fix the place after which i am out of there.

They would also get a life time guarantee.

Sounds stupid to me, they dont even have a computer BGCSE. They should put it in the history BGCSE, or social studies BJC, but not a seperate thing. Its funny how much garbage ideas come out of the government. They should keep things under wraps man, they would probably seem a bit more intelligent then.

Maybe its just me but the only clowns I see in this thread are the ones accusing govt.Because no where in this post did I see where its said this idea was being put forward by govt or MOE.SMT

However I do remember the minister or someone from MOE or Culture seriously suggest this on the news some time ago.

I would not know if an A on BGCSE junkanoo would get you a job or into any college. However if it takes the amount math, science, art and music they say it takes to put together the performance displayed at junior junkanoo every year, then there is no reason why the students involved in junkanoo should not be excelling in school, especially the musicians. Probably the students in Junkanoo are the ones excelling in school? Perhaps a survey should be done on this. That is unless there are people on this site who was active in junkanoo and was still able to do well in school.

This idea was put forth by members of the Junkanoo Corporation, I guess they believe that every Bahamian should be as into junkanoo as them. I love it, but it can't put food on my table. The way that canewry worded it may have led people to believe that it was put suggested by the Ministry of Education or Youth Sports and Culture. As far as I know no member of either the government or either ministry actually endorses this.

I agree with teaching kids about junkanoo but only as a part of other subjects, such as music, history, art or social studies.

5 BGCSEs in any subject with "C" or above will get you into almost any college.

Well.....almost any subject. Some wont take Religious Knowledge....Junkanoo, I don't know. I think if art teachers want, they can put it in their art classes, but not as an actual subject.

Like the dude who called Immediate Response saying that they should teach using rap music.

it would be discrimination if they did junkanoo only, since well not every bahamian has a junkanoo cultural background, if you get my drift
