View Full Version : Nationalising Beaches
Tafadhali 12-16-05, - 05:09 PM If we can go up to the high water mark line what's a few more feet to ensure future Bahamians own waterfront property or and at least have access to it. The Highwater mark is not enough. It seems like the only viable option from my stance(though I am radical at times) .Look at Miami Beach they have a pedestrian built all along the beaches and the hotels are adjacent to it. This is smart thinking for all the right reasons. Developers should more than understand- but do thieves ever...

I agree with you. I don't agree with anyone having the right to build a home / resort on the beach and then to be able to deny Bahamians access. It is not right.

that's really not what I was alluding to...you can build your home on the land you own adjacent to the beach you just cant own the beach. that's more than fair.

What a minute! If the law says you can build up to (or is it down to?)the High water mark, and that is what developers are doing, how can you call them thieves? Question the laws if you like but the developers are not doing anything against the law!
depends what the beach looks like ... if they are going to have public beaches, have garbage cans and cops to arrest people that just throw their garbage everywhere .. otherwise ..
I dont think many people with homes on the beach (most are barely a beach) care whether someone goes on the beach or the sand or what not, its when strangers come wondering on the property .. not to mention the garbage left behind by our countrymen and women, and the fights, cussing, and well maybe one day ill make a movie and post it here .. had a gang fight with stones and bottles come off the beach up to my appt where i live .. i dont have much of a beach here anyway, like 5 feet of sand and the water is full of bottles and garbage that floats in from probably weekend boaters and fishermen.
Anyway i never go on the beach anymore .. prefer the AC and Cable :-)
And its not my house i just rent .. but ill protect my shiitz, so any strangers caught come off the road will get questioned .. most these days are polite kids and so really i dont care .. they need some where to go and have some fun.
de redhead 12-17-05, - 10:00 AM I remember an incident when I was young, probably about 14 or 15.
I was walking along the beach off West Bay Street just East of Goodmans Bay with 2 of my cousins. While we were walking along 2 guys came down the beach in a 4x4 truck, showing off I guess. They got stuck in the sand in front of a few homes and the tide was coming in so we stopped to assist them.
As we were assisting them the homeowner whose home we were right in front of came out onto his balcony and told us to get off of his beach. When we explained that until we were able to get the vehicle out we couldn't leave he said that he didn't care just get off of his beach. He was being unreasonable so we went back to what we were doing. He warned us that he was going to get his gun, we explained our position and kept working.
He came out onto his balcony and started firing a shot gun, I didn't know where he was firing so we all had to hide behind the truck which was by now actually in the water. After we realized that he was firing into the air we continued with what we were doing, he told us that he had called the police. We put tree limbs that we found in the bushes (the homeowner accused us of stealing his tree limbs incidentally) under each tire and were eventually able to get the truck freed.
We put the man's tree limbs back and the 2 guys gave us a ride to my house which was right up the road. As we were leaving we saw the police car pass and I thought how this man was harassing us on a public beach, firing his gun in a residential area and still had the nerve to call the police.
What really bugged me was that if we were still there when the police arrived we would probably have been hauled off to the station like criminals.

they are thieves because unscupulous developers are stealing from unborn Bahamian generations. :hammer:

how are they stealing when they pay for it .. put blame where it belongs .. the developer simply bought the land from another Bahamian.
but they arent buying the beach ..

To expand on what Rory said. No laws have been broken. No developer steals, he simply buys what is for sale. If you want to get angry with anyone, get angry with Bahamians who sell out to the highest bidder - but even that is not illegal. We can buy or sell as we see fit. It is called freedom! Of course one could always go the way of Zimbabwe and confiscate the land. If we did that we would turn the Bahamas into the second sewer of the world, Zimbabwe being the first!

you should know better! Look at what those Eurpean nations did to Africa what the Brits did to the Native Indian land of America and if we want to bring it closer to home what Columbus did to the REAL Bahamians.I dont like the guy either but you you want to call people like Mugabe of sewer quality? He learned all he knows from the sewer rats called colonizers!!! yeah only when "little ol blackie" eeks out a way to get back what is his you have a problem with it? You have a problem with the Zulus and how they slaughtered the white land thieves too do you? serves um right! get the fuc outta here CG are you serious? I tell my lil brothers and sisters when they come over "you dont find tings in people house" when they "find" a quarter. I guess buddy learned from "the best"
Nationalising the beaches is insuring that generations of Bahamians have something to look at. Noone person will own it ALL Bahamians will own it! Makes no sense for anyone person or group to have a monoploy on beaches in the Bahamas. I gave yall the Miami Beach model and that's not enough. make a boardwalk how simply is that. We cant even welcomed over PI no more to go to Cabbage Beach what's next Goodman's BAy? This is why I gatta watch some a yall spreading that sh!t willy lump lump wont even buy. We'' buy it back, but at fair market value just like how it was sold.;) right is right fair is fair. the developers should more than understand the agenda here. seeing that the land was ill gotten anyway!
Maybe I got a lttle emotional as I do from time to time but...

They took the land by force then. Today, Developers buy the land! (From whom? Bahamians!)
I dont like the guy either but you you want to call people like Mugabe of sewer quality?
On a good day he may measure up to that.
He learned all he knows from the sewer rats called colonizers!!!
Apparently he did not learn to well. At least the Colonizers could run a country. He has run it into the ground.
yeah only when "little ol blackie" eeks out a way to get back what is his you have a problem with it?
No at all. But when they create a worse mess that was there, then I question.
You have a problem with the Zulus and how they slaughtered the white land thieves too do you? serves um right! get the fuc outta here CG are you serious?
I did not like the slaughter on both sides! You are talking about the Zulu wars?

As it stands now the beach is public property. All the government needs to do is enforce it.
This is why I gatta watch some a yall spreading that sh!t willy lump lump wont even buy. thing to look at in years to come. we'' buy it back but at fair market value just like how it was sold. right is right fair is fair.
Buy the land back? I could get behind that.
Maybe I got a lttle emotional as I do from time to time but...
I noticed that! :)

says who? From whose point of view did you notice the mess in Africa? Why are things always measured in terms of how europeans view it? Beacuse some people dont waer a business suit.Being the "worldly scholar" you are Im sure I need not remind you that Africa its not a country its a continent and there are many tribes there- who are not homogenous! do lunch play gulf or shake hands to make a deal that makes them some how inferior? Im sure my ancestors were quite fine with the way they were living pre slavery. They would have evolved. yeah I hope you question alright.
I noticed that! :)
you know I dont sleep. ;)
says who? From whose point of view did you notice the mess in Africa?
I thought we were talking about Zimbabwe and Executive President Robert Gabriel Mugabe
Why are things always measured in terms of how europeans view it?
So Africa views Zimbabwe moving from the "bread basket of the Southern part of Africa" to an importer of begged food as a good way to measure?
Beacuse some people dont waer a business suit.
I don't wear one!
Being the "worldly scholar" you are Im sure I need not remind you that Africa its not a country its a continent and there are many tribes there- who are not homogenous!
Well aware of that! I have been there.
do lunch play gulf or shake hands to make a deal that makes them some how inferior?
Not at all! Why would you think that?
Im sure my ancestors were quite fine with the way they were living pre slavery.
I am sure they were!
They would have evolved.
Why? They were, as you say, happy. They should have been left alone. Africa, in its pure state, had a wonderful connection to the land, the gods, the animals, the ebb and flow of the seasons. It is hard to find such people there now. The pursuit of the $ has left them empty. The White man has a lot to answer for, but so do the Blacks that exploit their own.
yeah I hope you question alright.
I do! I have been there. Have you? I have sat around the camp fires and heard the stories of the ancestors. I have heard the lions roar at night and the Hyenas "laugh" in the darkness and I lament the loss of "Africa." On the other hand, I have heard the mother's cry as yet another child has died from an illness that you and I can cure with a 50c pill, but their governments will not import, without a bribe! I have seen row after row of graves, all holding those who have died of AIDS, while Mugabe said there was no such thing as AIDS, just a White man's trick! I have seen the grinding poverty - you and I live like Kings in comparison, in fact the poorest person on this site is rich compared to many in Africa's out lying villages.
You may think me a racist, some on this site have called me such. But in my 50+ years I have seen, and more than that, touched the suffering. I don't care if you are Black or White! If you mess up, you mess up and I will question.
If, as many believe, Africa is the "home" of the human race, then Africa is home to us all. Exploitation, foolishness, and all the other deficiencies of the human race need to be exposed and questioned. If the bad guys are White or Black, it matters not!

did you go on a safari or some kind of mission? My guy and I have planned a West African trip there this summer.
i dont think your a racist, I just happen to be on edge when it comes to certain issues. ;)I believe we all have our prejudiced and preconceived notions that's we act on innocently enough and we dont see how some people may be offended by them take me for example I would be telling a mofo lie if I didnt say I was prejudice or had my hang up about race and stereotypes, like how I generalized that white people aint gat no soul and white people cant dance which isnt entirely false...except robin thicke) were human...fallible beings. your cool with me cg, but sometimes ...
