View Full Version : Tempo - for all things Caribbean
YorickBrown 12-19-05, - 06:56 PM Anyone watched the new TV station, Tempo?
(Its channel 47 on basic cable and channel 381 if you have the new digital cable box.)
It would be great to see some Bahamian music videos on that channel. So far they have been recycling some old videos from the 80's combined with a bit of up-to-date reggae and hip hop, but overall I think that the station has a lot of potential.
This is definitely a venture that the entire caribbean has to support. Finally, we have our own international TV media outlet that celebrates our regional music and culture!

k.o.o.l.b.o.n.z.e 12-19-05, - 07:27 PM they replaced TBN? finally, and i looked at the site. since it's a "caribbean" channel i feel as if the odds of seeing a bahamian video are going to be slim to none seeing as how sooo many people (from other countries) get offended at the mere thought of putting the bahamas in conjunction with the caribbean.

I was surprised to see that they have been promoting The Bahamas in some of the artist interviews. No Bahamian videos yet, but a few of the vids have Bahamian references in them (one artist was wearing a Nassau, Bahamas t-shirt in her video, our flag was in another, and we made it to the final three in TOK's beauty contestant video for "Gal yuh lead")

Yea, I noticed.
Funny, most of Tempo's videos look like they had a $500 budget. Then its wierd but they start showing a bunch of rap and RnB and I wonder, hmmm Caribbean aye?
But i done emailin them bout the lack of Bahamian music. They probably dont since we een in the Caribbean sea :sarcastic:

Even though I'm not a fan of mainstream rap nowadays, I noticed that quite a few of the rap/R&B artists that they feature on Tempo have strong caribbean ties or have done collaborations with Caribbean artists - Mos Def, Biggie, Busta Rhymes, Wyclef Jean, KRS-1, Mariah Carey and Lauryn Hill, for example.
Downtown Island had a special on Big Poppa the other day, talking about his ties with Jamaica. They even had his Jamaican ma on there promoting her book about him.
Once Bahamian artists get their videos over to Tempo, then we'll start to see them.

In those instances the caribbean connection is usually the producer or the director of the music video. Goes to show how we caribbean people sit behind the camera too, not just in front of it.
HHmmmmmmmmm
what happened to BET??

its on digital cable doubt its on super basic.
Lincoln 12-20-05, - 08:30 PM The Channel is super! I don't think that they are saying that they will only play caribbean music but they play the music that caribbean people like to hear and watch. All of their music is music that we grew up on or now like. Most black caribbean youth grew up on reggae and rap.

That's because, we Bahamians always complaining that we are not apart of the Caribbean...we just recently 'emotionally' rejoined. But they did mentioned the Bahamas on there a few times.

We shall see if they complain about this station due to its sexual nature and violence.
