i had a talk with my mummie and she was saying how back in the day you knew who won before you left bay street. now its all politicised you have to pay for 100 bleachers and you have to wait until the next day to hear the winners and its not fun anymore and its like were selling our souls. junkanoo isnt suppose to be about that. im not happy i wont be attending until i see some change.

Yes I know all of that,... my question is where did the name "Boxing" day come from... why was it not call freedom day, junkanoo day, etc... please explain Ms. Bahamian Historian.

Boxing day is a British Holiday.

Rory is right on this one actually. Boxing Day is a British Holiday which was traditionally the day when wealthy British families gave gifts to the poor. British aristocracy generally gave gifts to the poor on the day after christmas or some days after. The gifts were delivered in boxes hence the name "Boxing Day"
