View Full Version : AIDS in the Bahamas
xlittlexmissxcourtneyx 01-16-06, - 10:20 PM I am doing a project on AIDS in the Bahamas for school.
Yes, it DOES exist.
You can't shut it out.
I was wondering, what are your opinions of people with AIDS?
Or even the virus itself?
canewry 01-17-06, - 12:42 PM opinions like what?
xlittlexmissxcourtneyx 01-17-06, - 12:45 PM Like, if you think you should shut them out.
Or, what you think causes AIDS.
Things like that.
canewry 01-17-06, - 12:50 PM Well, I am not a doctor...
But I assumed the world knows how aids is transferred.
Moreso, shut out from what...your questions are vague...you will only receive vague answers.

LIL MISS ITS 2006 THERE IS NO SHUTTING OUT AIDS UNLESS YOUR DEAF DUM AND MUTE. YOUR PROPOSED QUESTIONS REALLY SHOWS YOU HAVE A REALLY NARROW AND OUTDATED VIEW OF THE AIDS EPIDEMIC. EDUCATED PEOPLE, SUCH AS THE ONES ON THIS FORUM DON'T THINK THEY KNOW WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF AIDS "THEY KNOW" BECAUSE THEY'VE MADE IT THROUGH JUNIOR HIGH AT LEAST.
DO YOUR RESEARCH ONLINE, READ A BOOK, WATCH A DOCUMENTRY, THEN COME BACK WITH SOME KEY QUESTIONS FOR 2006.
Alien 02-19-06, - 03:01 PM Can you guys try to be nicer to a 15 year old curious about the Bahamas?
She was saying that she is doing a paper..."When you do school papers, you try to find out information about something you possibly know nothing or very little about"...
She is 15 and from the U.S....could it be possible that she knows very little about the AIDS epidemic in the Bahamas??
:dgi:
Ok courtney..I wont be as rude as some of these folk....
But I think you are trying to ask about who is at risk of AIDS hiv in the Bahamas...and who is at the root of spreading it.
Me personaly I feel that this has moved from being an epidemic of the young male 18-30 ...to a young female 16-35 and older male 30-55 epidemic.
The AIDS cases an STD cases reported to the Hospital show us that yound females in that age group are getting not only AIDS but STD"s at a rapid pace.
This is in part to the ratio being 1 male to every 3 females...
Older males having a significant share of the economic wealth of this country...
Young females social stage of not only self awareness, but they have been filling the gap so to speak and are at the mercy of the old Guard "older males with economic wealth"...
The statistics show that young females are at risk..but doesnt show the sociological aspect of why.
But it is what I feel....
But you can ask on....or pm me if you require any hard data and info!
Good luck with your paper!
:)
islandgyal 02-19-06, - 05:13 PM An out island perspective:
As far as I know, AIDS is caused by sexual contact with an infected person, or a blood transfusion involving tainted blood. The disease is highly contagious, but nowhere near the hysterical levels of isolation that were promoted in the early 1980s.
One can have physical contact with someone with AIDS, as long as one is careful about one's hygiene before and after contact. As for how one should treat someone with AIDS, just realize that they are going to tire out far more quickly and not be able to eat as much as before they developed such an immune deficiency.
Does that help you?
As for personal attitude, in my experience AIDS has impacted wealthy and poor, black and white, Christian and atheist, heterosexual and straight alike. I have no issue whatsoever with homosexual or heterosexual preferences, but have a real problem with men on the down low who pretend that they are innocently pursuing their bisexuality. Condoms are not a 100% fool-proof means of prevention, either.
biggy 02-19-06, - 09:22 PM I recall a Christmas Holiday cab ride in Freeport several years ago and the Prime Minister was giving a speech, some of which was very alarming, concerning the rise in the incidence of HIV in the Bahamas.Does anyone here feel that the tremendous influx of illegal Haitians is a contributing factor to this? I do understand that HIV in Haiti is pandemic.Anyway,in Abaco that is the theory of many Bahamians, just wondering what opinions are elsewhere.
nady_dady 02-19-06, - 10:13 PM LISTEN 2BAD, I AM NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE, I JUST THINK THAT WHEN YOU PROPOSE A QUESTION TO A FORUM ON A DYNAMIC TOPIC SUCH AS AIDS, don't slack , COME CORRECT. OK AND IF SHE IS "WRITING A PAPER" HOW IS THIS A RELIABLE SOURCE,let's be fa real.
another forum tip ... no caps .. it denotes shouting ...

eerrrrr.....why the caps in odd places??
Look, like how most of you prattled on about my "no holds barred" private room. And hence, argued that this is a MATURE site so little miss courtney CAN get sensible information from us...no?
:cutie:
Look, she is asking for ....What do we feel is the root causes of AIDS.
I gave here a reliable source "Dr Perry Gomez" of the Bahamas AIDS secretariat released that statistical information about three months ago about the age group at risk for STD's.
Alls she has to do is go there "AIDS secretariat"..and she can have the statistics to back up my "sociological" claim
I am a social scientist, and I am ALLOWED to make those kinds of statements as well as give my honest opinion on who is spreading the disease TODAY and why is it prevalent to that age group!
I am trying not to be rude or call names...and I wont, but to come off like we can not give fair information when you and everyone else on my "Private no holds barred thread" insists that this is a Bahamas issues site for mature debate....really causes me to question your reasoning and sensibility!
:hammer:

Look this no holds barr room sounds personal:gi:lolol
I am really glad you are an expert on this topic and can propose a reliable perspective (She is Lucky), I am also glad that you took the time to "infer" more into her questions. I just did not have time for all that. I don't want to down play this Topic, because it is really important but if you want to tackle a topic like AIDS in the Bahamas let's give it a lil more crediability/importance than (I am doing a school paper and have no real questions to propose except crap I am regurgitating from heresay and not real research)
That's just me 2bad lololol get it:cutie:

Just trying to justify my cause and bolster support...
:D

I came to her aid just in the nick of time...no pun intended.:)
I am also glad that you took the time to "infer" more into her questions. I just did not have time for all that.
Well she is only 15...on top of that, i kind knew what she wanted to ask
So i answered her on the bounds of who was at risk for the disease, and didnt asume that she did not know on how it was physically transmitted as she probably got that in family life class..or just by surfing the internet.
Give the lady an ounce of credit at least...she wasted time joing an online forum "bahamian" to ask about an internationaly known epidemic...do you think she did it to ask the obvious??
:dgi: ...does that really add up to you?
I don't want to down play this Topic, because it is really important but if you want to tackle a topic like AIDS in the Bahamas let's give it a lil more crediability/importance than (I am doing a school paper and have no real questions to propose except crap I am regurgitating from heresay and not real research)
This is her research....she asked for what we felt, and i gave her bang for her buck and pointed her in the right direction AT LEAST!!
She can take my word.,..or if she is serious she can double check my claim or stats..its up to her.
But, i gave her a push in the right direction..what have you done for her i ask?
:cutie:
That's just me 2bad lololol get it:cutie:
Cool.
:)
nady_dady 02-22-06, - 09:25 PM I feel so "quote" violated. 2bad the best thing I did for lil miss is point out a weak platform so that she could go back and reinforce. LIL MISS TAKE CONTROL OF YA THREAD, I could go all night with 2bad (he likes that:) Lets talk frankly about the monster, I'm down. Don't expect any "socialogial" stats from me through. lolol:angel:
