View Full Version : Give them a Curfew?
Excalibur 01-17-06, - 08:12 PM Would you support a curfew law so that children under age 13 are not to be on the streets past say 10pm?
Between my job and day-to-day life I see children walking and playing like 2 am in the morning and it’s ridiculous.
What do you think? We want to hear!

yes, what are they doing out that late anyway? But I would increase the age to 16. They did this in Miami when I was in school, im surprised this isnt a law already- especially with all the high crime in Nassau. Crime is down in Dade County now- I think it has something to do with it.
It would be a good idea, but the current laws are barely enforced.

Very true. In any event, after 10pm I would hope that the police are on the lookout for criminals, not chasing after somebody's "chirren".

You must not live in the Bahamas. Ask a police "who they be chasing".... somebody's "chirren".
Alot of action from this age group; trust me.
Prevention is still better than cure.
Alien 01-17-06, - 09:21 PM But the bigger thing is should it really be an issue??
Well...if we can get some parents on curfew as well, it will be ok!
But...kids will be kids and now that i see it..we barely have police to do their actual jobs.
You know whats REALLY horrible...the amount of kids out in the bloody daylight!!!
YES....the amount of truant and out of school kids....
We cant even find a way to keep em where we want em in the daytime..what now, keep em in on their free time?
Good luck with that!
LOL.....
what do you want to do...shoot em for being out??
Arrest the little buggers..then get the parents, then send em through the same 6 and 4...yadda yadda yadda....same ole thing!
We need a better aproach...a long term steady aproach!
Not a short term quick fix....in fact from what i have seen of some parents, kids are better off out away from their home life anyways!!
Sad....but TRUE!

that is long term approach. you cant be outside unless you have parental supervision. some people are so negative all the time!

After all that what do you suggest?
Oh; the "Curfew" idea as in use in other jurisdiction have been implemented as long term approaches.
de redhead 01-17-06, - 09:30 PM I am always cautious about suggesting restrictions being placed on young people that I myself would have found excessive when I was their age.
When I was young I wasn't out in the streets all hours of the night, I had responsible adults who were responsible for me and my whereabouts. But I would have resented someone telling me that I could not go out after 10:00pm when I was 16.
Alien 01-17-06, - 09:39 PM What should be adressed is a long term solution that teahces our kids proper values...and not putting them in "soft" institutions!
Not being free..is institutionalizing them.
I must admit...a long term strategy will not come up in a cracker jack box..and neither will it be in the quick and quipy rantings of sleepy posters!
:D
It needs to be attacked..but first with the understanding that we must be aware of the different experiences each child faces, and attempting to change the mindset of what we need for them to understand.
THAT...must be done...
and it isnt a quick fix
it isnt perverbialy putting them on lockdown
and it isnt putting them out of our eyesite to be dysfunctional elsewhere!!
This needs care..and personal know how...

well children are suppose to obey adults they why theya re called children. I had a problem with it too when i was in school dont get me wrong- but it was insuring my safety, I thought it was a good thing.

When I'm driving around at night in Nassau, some snotty-nosed, under 13 year old kid is the last of my worries. My concerns are about the older guys with the guns jumping out of the bush at the traffic light, the ones trying to break into your house with you in it, the people trying to steal/break into your car while it's in your driveway, the ones pulling up next to women trying to grab them into cars and even the ones who impersonate cops so that you can open the door for them and get robbed.
Those officers who perform night patrol on the police force have their hands full already. They don't need to be babysitters as well. While they are worrying about the kids running around in a community street (where they are relatively safe, mind you), crimes might be going on elsewhere.
Also, if this curfew trend was adopted, some criminal would eventually figure out that they can use their children or someone else's children as decoys to temporarily distract officers while the adults commit their crimes further on down the street and make their getaway.
