View Full Version : Crime Rate
spooty 02-16-06, - 11:17 AM Hello all. I would just like you folks to help me out with a school assignment. I have to write an essay for my English 119 class. Im writing on the crime rate, and who do we have to blame. I would like to start a poll, but i dont know how. Any way, heres the topic guys:
“We have no one to blame for the rising crime rate in The Bahamas but ourselves.” Agree or Disagree
Please all your comments will be very helpful. Thanks
biggy 02-16-06, - 11:45 AM I feel that the problem is not just a Bahamian issue, but one shared around the western world.
1.Young people tend to emulate their heroes,if there is not a strong and good
man in their lives,it will most likely to be some entertainer, some of them very poor examples to follow.
2.It is not kool to go to school.Too many kids do not see the value of education, but seem to be lured into a seedy lifestyle of violence, the abuse of women and the use of drugs.
3.Fathers who shirk their parental responsibilities.Children need a father to follow by example and to feel protected.Too many women are left to the task of child rearing on their own and young men lose respect for women because there is no enforcer in their home and their mom always gives in to them.
I know there are many mitigating circumstances surrounding the reasons why a person becomes a criminal but I feel it really starts at home.
spooty 02-16-06, - 12:16 PM Would some one start a poll on this for me please, or at least tell me how to do so. It can be used for documentation in my assignment.
Thanks

Great Demos 02-17-06, - 06:10 PM This could be a very serious debate! This is something I have been trying to come to grips with for years. I believe you can get some ideas by doing a search on this forum.
My own take is that we have to continue with things like the Urban Renewal program and whatever else we can do to fight crime and prevent it, etc, but I feel that this plague has to do with end times, as outlined in Matthew chapter 24 and 2 Timothy chapter 3.
I think it was around the late 1980's when our police dept started using computers to fight crime. They were supposed to have gotten some good crime-fighting programs, plus some good programmers to coach them.
At the time, I was like, "thank heavens, we will soon be able to solve the crime problem once and for all". That was almost a joke. I mean the police continued to work very hard and it seemed that the harder they worked the more the crimes increased!!! They now have computers everyshere!
I will advise that if you are going to discuss the crime situation as being a fulfillment of Bible prophecy, don't focus on it too much if your lecturer or the person marking the paper is not a Christian!
The poll stated: "We have no one to blame for the rising crime rate in The Bahamas but ourselves. Agree or disagree." I would love to know who disagreed and why.
I should also like to know who are/is the "ourselves?"
Alien 02-17-06, - 07:42 PM Well who do we mean when we say "We"???

write your paper first. dont plagerize everyone else's arguments and stick them in your paper.

The Pimp of all things CCTV is correct.
Thr police force do have 2 stations in nassau that are not online. Lyford Cay and Arawak Cay. The remainder of the stations in nassau are currently online. Our outisland stations from Inagua to Abaco are also online. The book you refer to is called an information register and it is used for the day to day running of the police stations, Crime or reported matters are placed on a form and then entered into the system.
I do belive police presence (or lack there of)is a major contributer to the increase in crime.
(This is not a politcal attack on any policy, it is only my opinion on how i see the police resources being abused)
The Urban Renewal project has gathered praise from all over the carribbean including the ACCP (Assoication of Commisoners and Chief Of Police). However i feel we are negelcting our other duties. The police force is currrently spearheading each of these project offices and manpower had to be pulled from all of our stations to fill the project office. This mean we have increase police presence in the inner city area but barely no presence in the out skirt areas. 1998 i was working in the mobile patrol division, on average we had 12cars on mobile patrol every shift now some 8 years later the average amount of cars per shift is 5. Our problem back then was car now the problem is man power. I do belive that crime in the areas of the project office has decrease but that because the (IMO) people have left their area because of the high police presence and went to the out areas where police presence is lacking to commit their crime.
I think police should be made to do their job and leave the project office to ministries that have responsibilities for it (works, social services, enviromental health)with 1 or 2 officers the most on staff to represent the police force.
Ok PLP fan boys be gentle in your attack.:)

You made some good points, but I dn't see how pulling cops from the URP will help, if you say it's working so great.Maybe two solutions are to either pull some more cops out of the office (in my area we have an insp. Adderly & his team) and they're doing a fantastic job.Maybe you need more oficers like him on the street. Also how about hiring some more officers. PS: Not like the ones that have been mentioned on this board lately. :)
