Bishop Greene’s Comments – Part 2
By Apostle Cedric Moss
July 24, 2003
It has been more than two weeks since Bishop Greene’s comments about homosexual marriages and becoming a live Guy Fawkes if our parliament passes legislation to accommodate same sex marriage. In spite of public outcry about the inappropriateness of the Guy Fawkes threat and calls for an apology, at the time of this writing (July 18th), I have not seen or heard any retraction or clarification from Bishop Greene. I have since read other statements attributed to Bishop Greene, but the Guy Fawkes statement evidently still stands. In my view, this is a sad display of arrogance.
If Bishop Greene does not voluntarily retract or clarify his Guy Fawkes statement, the Commissioner of Police should invite him to do so. For sure, if the statement is allowed to stand, it will be an irresponsible precedent which will come back to haunt us; perhaps not immediately but it will inevitably.
Just Imagine…
British Columbia is one of the Canadian provinces currently allowing homosexual marriages. Let’s imagine it is the year 2010, and homosexual marriage has been normal in Canada for 7 years. On the line at the marriage license office in Vancouver is a very excited homosexual couple, Tom and Rick. They are soon to be a newly weds. The line is a bit long so they ask someone to hold their place for them and they proceed to interview all of the other seemingly excited persons standing in line.
Incestuous Marriage
Tom and Rick first interview a man and woman who seemed as excited as them. Tom remarks to the man that he and the woman resemble. The man replies that it is because the woman is his adult biological daughter and they love each other so he divorced his daughter’s mother and he and his daughter are applying for a license to marry. But Tom and Rick protest that such a marriage is prohibited. The man and his daughter counter by asking Tom and Rick to tell them the basis for the law prohibiting a mutually consenting man and his adult daughter from marrying. Tom and Rick are not sure how to answer. They know if they use the Bible, the man would show them that the Bible also prohibits homosexuality. They also know they can’t try to cite a law because the man and his daughter will echo the same constitutional rights claim pleaded by homosexuals that caused the Canadian courts and the Canadian government to grant them homosexual marriage.
So they leave the man and his daughter and move on to the next couple, two excited men. But they soon find out that the men are two brothers applying to marry. Tom and Rick protest but the brothers tell them that they are Canadians and have as much right to marry as they do. Again, Tom and Rick do not have a valid response. Their excitement wanes but the line is still long so they continue their interviews.
Have it Your Way
They see a man, Bob, with his German Shepherd dog, Bruno. They engage Bob in casual conversation and soon ask why his spouse to be did not come with him. Taking offence and with a serious face Bob tells them that his dog Bruno is his spouse to be. Tom and Rick protest that Bob is trying to taking the liberal marriage laws too far to include animals. Bob pulls out his pocket Bible and reads Leviticus 18:22-23 to Tom and Rick. They are speechless because they are confronted with an amazing reality: Verse 22 prohibits homosexuality and verse 23 prohibits . Tom and Rick realize that if homosexuality could be allowed, then certainly bestiality could be so they have no response for Bob.
They leave Bob and Bruno and their excitement has now turned to concern and curiosity about all the other possible “combinations” applying for marriage. That day they interviewed all kind of combinations of candidates for marriage. They found 15 other combinations of couples on the line whose marriages are prohibited by Leviticus 18.
Marriage Innovation
But that’s not all. That day, Tom and Rick were shocked to learn that since other countries had passed same sex marriages, Canada decided to become innovative and developed some cutting edge group marriage products…almost anything one could imagine. They were intrigued by the marriage partnership, the marriage corporation and the timeshare marriage. They learnt that marriage partnerships, corporations and timeshares worked similar to how the actual business entities work.
The marriage partnerships and corporations allowed for any number of the vast combinations of already married couples and single persons (men & women, men & men, women & women, and combinations of all of them) to come together as a group by filing the relevant articles and memorandum of association with the government. These new group marriage products, also known as tribal or community marriages allow for great variety and flexibility. There were even rules for transferring or swapping places, domestically and internationally, in these group marriages.
The timeshare marriage, unlike the partnership and corporation marriage where everyone lived together, allows members to have mutually pre-arranged set annual times to live with specific members of their timeshare marriage club. These marriages work similar to vacation timeshares. And new members are always joining so they guaranty the timeshare marriage for life. It was the new hit, promising both variety and privacy.
The Whirlwind
Tom and Rick were now depressed; marriage did not mean the same thing any more. It was a free for all. They realized that the boundary stone of marriage was constantly widening to accommodate the newest imagination of corrupt minds. They were able to see that Canada spat in wind and was having it returned by a whirlwind. So they decided that marriage as it had become was not worth it and they did not rejoin the line. Instead, they decided to take some time away from each other and rethink the whole idea of marriage…beginning in the Book of Genesis.
