"We are faced today with many challenges of homosexuality, many challenges of armed robbery, stealing and rape. Yes, we are challenged because we failed to train them in the way they should go"
This lady sickens me. When people make assinine statements like the above, you have to wonder what lala land they live in or does she identify with what Bahamian children are struggling with on a daily basis.
She needs to stop blaming and beating the victim... all social ills in this country cannot be solved by sticking you head in a bible.
We need solutions not rhetoric.
for real ... if you need a bible or preacher to keep you from killing or stealing then yah got issues ... In other words, you dont need religion to tell you whether something is right or wrong

The woman makes a point. Many of our social ills are bred from the time of the nursery. It is easier to bend a twig than a tree. I think she was inferring to the role that parents need to play to ensure that we have future productive and law abiding citizens. There is nothing with wrong with that message. What needs to be coupled to that is a proactive plan against criminals and other practicioners of social ills that have surpassed their weaning and impressionable stages. However we cant forget about the young and impressionable ones that are still to come up, and that responsibility lies not within governement but within the family.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Also I am not aware of what context the statement was made in, but I don't see any reference to The Bible or preachers in it (not that there is necessarily anything wrong with The Bible or preachers for that matter).

I agree with you that the family structure have to be fix in order for the nation to begin to fix the social ills and the criminal element in our society but it must go hand in hand with our public officials living ethical and moral lives. Mother Pratt as Minister of Defence and National Security must be accountable because she is being paid handsomely, not only to pray and preach but to iniate and install structure and discipline to the forces she oversee and to uphold the law of the country.
I could be wrong but I believe when Minister Pratt mention homosexuals, she was speaking to the cabinet of the Bahamas.

my issue is that, Pratt is the one who can do a alot of what you suggest and she continues with “they need the blood of jesus to cover them”...that's not cutting it and that's not the only answer...that bible doublespeak isnt gonna work right now with the problems this nation is facing...not in today's Bahamas. Imagine the police force captain mouthing off such nonsense….you cant…and she’s his boss!
