Who knew this was even in our backyard, more schools like this are needed. The govt should be more encouraging of schools like these for Bahamian children...this is a great idea for a charter school.

I will point out an observation that may stun you. WHere are all the Bahamian teachers? Looks like Americans and Cunuks want to escape to the warm weather and teach locals how to catch they own fish? Boy I tell you.........

yes I saw that too and no black teachers just black helpers...but that wasnt the angle I was aiming for...if this is happening in our country why cant our govt's minisrty of education implement something like this for our children? why cant Bahamians have our own MAST Academy as MCDPS does?

looks arent everything...a calm and peaceful environment stimulates learning.
anything is better than a funky collapsing and violent atmosphere. some kids need this. its a damn shame that every Bahamian child dont know what it is to fish sail swim...
appearance isnt everything.

You have been over there huh? How do you know its calm and peaceful environment that stimulates learning? I know scuba and spear fishing sure stimulates me. I does seem kind of hippy, and I sure hope these foreigners ain teaching bahamian history.

looks are not everything ...
but why the hell they don't fix the existing schools or build more to fix the crowding problem, and also work on the viloence?
if they don't fix the root of the problem, then it will spread there too ultimately
and plenty of these bad head nassuvians moving to the islands now

I think that she was just speaking of the concept itself, I think that it is interesting to say the least.

I've visited the school on several occasions and it was very interesting. My only problem with the school was the lack of Bahamians there teachers and students. At the time of my visits there were MAYBE 3 bahamians students and they only bahamian faculty were like the cooks, drivers or cleaners and stuff. But the school has a pretty decent progam.Someone commented on foreignors teaching Bahamian kids on to catch their own fish but it is surprising how many Bahamians do not know that there are laws environmental and man made that goes with fishing. THe school also teaches about conserving energy and making use of 'waste' and other things that are ecofriendly and good for the environment. The concept is good like i said but the lack of bahamians there is a problem

I like it!

The current system of government schools with Bahamian teachers isn’t any better; I know this for a fact! If my kids can do better under foreign teachers and a different curriculum, I will not hold it from them. Unless seeing D- every semester is acceptable.

yes that's one of the first things I noticed about the faculty (as I dont have a eurocentric view of the world) and that saddened me, but that wasnt important to me, the idea and the children are so I accentuated the positive

...if the MOE cant seem to get its bureaucracy structure in check then they should give some control to someone interested in opening up a charter school (public funded school followed govt guidelines w/o the public day to day control) and I just know things would be different...I know Alfred Sears knows about these kinds of schools their all over NYC...and their having positive results...what's going on with homey? .others brought up ideas about separating the boys from the girls, or maybe even corporate sponsorship of programs for wayward youth...their was one in the New York area that afforded my friend an ivy league education and a better life ( not a Better Chance) their is the 500 role models of excellence like in dade county...fraternity and sorority sponsored clubs i know of AKA's GEMS but Im not sure what the men are doing...

there was also another concept school on the island I think it was a boarding school call windmere or soemthing like that but im not sure...

all this to say,the status quo of education in the Bahamas isnt working we need to try something that is...
