Hello all,
I have been mulling this over for awhile. I would like to open a private
business school abroad, preferably in the Caribbean or Mexico. I hold an MBA
from a good school in the US and have years of experience in consulting,
management, accounting, internet marketing, and strategic planning. Not to
mention outstanding PC skills, I taught computer labs while working on my
Master's degree. My undergraduate degree is in Zoology with an emphasis in
Cultural Anthropology and Environmental Conservation. I also own a startup
internet company.
I've been wanting to put something like this together for some time now and am
trying to decide where it would be most successful. It's not about making tons
of money, it's about wanting to make a difference and living in a culture I
really love - I've been around the Caribbean and Mexico (alot) and love them
both. I spent my honeymoon in the Bahamas.
Ideally, I'd like the government to subsidize the tuition at least in part so I
can offer the education for the entire community where I settle. Whether or
not this will be an option, is quite open, however, I want to be able to give
locals the benefit of a good education and hopefully different from what they currently have access to. Any advice or ideas is greatly
appreciated.

Do you have citizenship? I dont know if you need it in order to open a buisness but it might be helpful. In nassau there are quite a few private schools.

Do you have any money Teri?
And do you have any hookup in any present Government administration?
I cant say for any other country, but I know that Bahamian officials are pretty easy to come by.
Give us some more detail as to who you are and where you are comming from, and we can set up a mutal meeting for you with someone.
The Bahamas needs another charter school, and we can help this thing move forward if you have the resources!

Unless the business investment is worth specific amount of money,"of which I do not know the threshold of "it must be Bahamian owned in the amount of 51%.In other words the gov't will waive the 51% law if the investment is substantial enough.

must be over $500K then since i had an investor that wasnt a bahamian citizen but lived here, and wanted to drop $400+K into an investment but puilled out when the gov said no ... or maybe it was because she wasnt paying anyone off though!

I forgot the number,I looked into it at one time, thinking of something to do if my wife wants to stay in the Bahamas by her family.I don't look forward to that prospect,I am so into the "chase"in the northeast,I miss it after only a few days in Abaco.

Thanks all for the information. I'm just collecting information at this point. Wanting to see what kind of hoops I need to jump through and scouting locations.
