Ok, im not the best one to talk about this, thanks to 2 major car accidents myself (wasnt my fault, promise! :-)
But ...
where i live on eastern rd (and im not giving the exact address!), there have been 3 drunk driving accidents in the last 7 days, all three left the scene.
The first one, 4 am in the morning, totalled my neighbors wall. Now they dont even live there, and probably dont know yet that its not there anymore ..but, anyway, the person left the scene.
The 2nd one, 3 am in the morning, someone hit a lampost (its pretty close to the road on a bend in the road) and then scorched brakes 100 f eet to stop a few inches away from my entrance gate, then left. They left peices of r ocks all over the road, those little triangle curb things people put on lawns; i moved them off the road since I was out there to see if anyone was dead! Noone was there.
The 3rd, tonight, 12 midnightish, guy lost control and ran into my metal garbage bin, and wall, flattening the garbage can, and not doing too much to the 4 foot thick 60 year old wall. But he was drunk clearly, he had a tow truck come before the police could come, which they never did, and he was stumbling all over the road, with a drink in his hand. I called the police, but they never came, now i have no garbage can!!!! @#$#$A#% Plus, since they didnt have the curtousey also to clean up all the large rocks from my wall, that were all over the road I guess, i heard a coupel cars hit them hard and I guess get some damage. I blame the POLICE, cause they were called and never came. I dont work for the government.
ANYWAY ....
This is not it, i had about 4 mirrors knocked to pieces in a period of 6 months when I first moved here on eastern rd, until I finally put the mirrors on the Lamp Post! Yeah, thats right, hit them now :-))
Plus there was a head on acccident with a motorcycle and a car one night, the guy lived, but it was another hit and run, 1am on a sunday night.
And I remember one night a car did write off the gate entrances wall on one side i an accident where a rasta was overtaking on the corner, drunk ofcourse. The poilice came, but never cleaned up the mess, nor never got back to us on fixing the wall.
Its a frigin joke here with anything to do with damage to private property, and anything to do with traffic control and laws. The major issue is there are no drinking and driving laws here, and most bahamians should not have a licence because they cannot drive or handle a vehicle on corners anyway.
There have been many more accidents or near accidents, but the people rarely stop.
Who in the governent should I talk to in reference to this, one day someone is going to get killed, perhaps they need some rail guards on the bends, or more signs (the street signs were knocked down a year or so ago in one of the hit and runs!).
I am wondering if I should tell them to put cameras up, for these hit and runs, or if I put them up, Ill print every thing in the newspapers!????
What do you think, anyone. The governent really needs to assign a traffic department that does there jobs, instead of having holidays every other week. As far as crime they are pretty good now doing patrols at least on eastern road, ill give them that.
