we are island people...when we dont have access to the sea and lose our our connection to it...this is the situation we find ourselves in...

if the govt has basic services on the out-islands that would be incentive for mor eyoung people to stay home and Nassau wouldnt be so over-populated...JMO

When you have no respect for the sanctity of life, you will commit crimes like murder, rape, etc just to name a small few. Yes urbanisation certainly plays a role...but you still gotta break things down to the elements of things...its whats inside a man alot of times that makes him (mankind) do the things they do.

For you to take another person's life just because you didnt like what they said to you?? or some other such nonsense people are getting changed for? We have been conditioned not to respect life, to miniminalise life, to rationalise life, to determine which life is worth anything even though none of us created life....whether its life in the womb or the life that eventually ends up in a tomb...a man's breath is but a useless or dispensible vapour to far too many of us in the world these days.

I think it's social and stems from our family dynamics. Alot of serial rapist and murderers came from broken homes.

Now that you mention it,I did have to teach 3 of my stepdaughters to swim.lol

But seriously,I feel a lot of crime committed by young people is encouraged by American television. What connection should young Bahamian men feel they have with American Thugg Gangstas? I sat at a bar to have lunch last week in Abaco, most of the young men there I knew. Would you believe that their lunchtime conversation was about crime, violence and friends at Fox Hill?I know these guys, most since they were just boys.Where are they headed?

Its more than TV.....its that and no purpose/opportunity, no life direction, maybe poor family dynamics, poverty etc etc. Maybe they feel they were dealt a raw deal in life and "dont check" anymore. I imagine its complicated..........

Yeah Rory its like you read my mind -- was just going to start a similar thread. I agree we have been talking too much about controversial, emotional topics like politics, religion and race. We should get down to methods and strategies to lick this terrible crime situation we have. Almost every day now there is a murder!!!

Wisdom, Oh Wisdom! What we need are some modern-day Solomons to use wisdom and common sense and come up with wise and effective ways to deal with criminal matters!

Can you imagine a number of really top-class strategies being used by a large group of people to deal with this situation!? I mean, we just have to DO something! This thing is out of hand!

And how do we acquire wisdom? [it is said that knowledge comes quickly, but wisdom lingers]. I think the best way to gain wisdom and common sense is by talking to any and everybody, especially those we think are dumb and don't know anything, the street-smart man on the street types.

What do you guys think?

I know it,the majority of Bahamians can't swim,I would say about 75%.I'm not talking about playing in the water now I mean swimming.
