Victimization has no place in this modern Bahamas. Mr. Perry Christie has demonstrated to some degree that he means it when he says he will not tolerate victimization. If he lives up to this promise he will solidify a lot of support. If he does not he will die on that promise.
Mr. Christie is at a point in life where he should keep an eye on history. Someone with children does not want to do things that will create a stain his family's name for generations. He does not want his children being accosted all over the world because of his actions or inactions. Only greatness for the nation and himself should motivate Mr. Christie now.
Mr. Christie must remember the lessons of history. Often times an administration may appear corrupt if key members of that administration do corrupt things. Good men do not keep bad company. If you walk like a duck, talk like a duck, and are found in the company of ducks - you get shot like a duck!
The majority of us are hoping, wishing, praying that Mr. Christie and his team do well. He has it in his hands to do well. Mr. Christie can be the Ronald Reagan of the Bahamas. He has to put in place a system that will eliminate corruption in government - of course this system must be ever evolving; he must put in place a system that eleiminates victimization and gives victims some recourse; and he should continue on his course of putting Bahamian wishes and interests first.
The steps taken at BAIC are positive. Steps must also be taken to stop the victimization in the Family Islands with regard to contracts. A system should be put in place that rationalizes how contracts are awarded. All contracts that are available and awarded should be put on a website so nothing is done in the dark.
Mother Pratt and the other preachers in the Bahamas need to speak out against victimization. Bishop Niel Ellis and Bishop Sam Greene should be heard on the topic of victimization. Bishop Drexel Gomez needs to be more than quiet on victimization. Where are the men and women of God when the people of God are being trampled on? Is there no Moses among them? Does Myles Munroe have nothing to say on this subject?
Where are the human rights people who have something to say about everything? Surely they have some ideas how the indignities of victimization can be cured. I am sure Fred Mitchell and Fred Smith have views. Surely Minister Bradley Roberts will not tolerate victimization. Where are they when they are needed?
I surely would like to hear Brent Symonette speak out on victimization. The FNM should send investigative teams to the various islands to check out and document the claims of victimization. Let the facts be heard!
I believe the majority of Bahamian people realize the poitical futility of victimization. We cannot be intimidated anymore. Even if we lose, we will fight back and fight viciously. Also, when we victimize, we cannot help but victimize our supporters, our friends or friends and families of our supporters. This spells negative influence and eventually the indignity of being removed from office.
The reason Tennyson Wells is so popular in his constituency and generally in the country is that he is approachable by persons of any political pursuasion. His word is his bond. His ego is such that he does not require anyone subordinating themselves to him. He apreciates people with different viewpoints and wins the opposition over with honey.
The bottom line is leaders need support. In the end, you cannot force people to support you! If you victimize someone, you are guranteed opposition; and strong opposition! So let's fix the Bahamas. After one week of celebration, let's forget the political labels and adopt the label, "Bahamian".
