I don't know why but the goverment just keep letting them get away with stealing from the Bahamian people.I payed for almost two years eight-hundred dollars for a complete coverage FOR MY CAR got in a small acident and they told me i have to come up with $400.00 in cash before they can fixed my car. i ask the young lady why? when i was paying for a complete coverage,no body mention this to me before.she said it's in your contract ,have you read it at all.
i will in the future.so my fellow bahamian be on your guide with these insurance company.i had to pay and i have left that company for good i hope
because if i was told this before i would not have joined it at all.altogether i had to come up with twelve hundred dollars to repair my car. i can't believe
our goverment is allowing such companies to operate in the Bahamas. To me and this is only my personal opinion.its all set up in away to take your money and keep it for themselves. The biggest crooks in the country and maybe in the world are insurance company.many of you may not agree with me, but this is just my opinion.i still have insurance but believe me ask question before signing any thing with these company.i have learn a good lesson believe you me.

you can say the compnay name...its all about better business and accountability...oops...we dont have consumer protection legislation after all this time...

but that's nothing to what will happen when the ig hurricane comes and Colina has all those insurance policies that cant be paid for lack of funds...:taped2:

maybe that's your deductable? but it does sound steep to be paying that much...its usually no more than $500...but this is the Bahamas...everything cost more...why didnt you just get your shade tree mechanic to fix it?

but this got me to thinking more about consumer protection...in the bozine affair the lawyer gave the people two weeks to vacate their property...where else can this be done but here...this is so wrong on so many fronts...two weeks!:sparky:

This is whats great about business in the Bahamas concerning contracts. Most people hardly read anything much less the fine print. But then again, how many people anywhere read agreements and terms...even those "big little" user agreements when you install applications and the like?

I bet alot of Freeporters know their insurance policy now since the 2004/05. People went in hoping for pay outs and walked out shocked.

I read everything...we have to give ourselves the best deal every single time!
I met a nice lady who didnt know how her mortgage interest rate...and Im thinking WTF...so sad...ridiculous actually. just paying bills and you dont know what is what...crazy!

what goes on here is highway robbery because of a lack of consumer prrotection legislation (as yet) an because of how sleezy rogue unscrupulous and corrupt some business "networks" are...expand on the freeport policies chance please!

Well there were rare cases really where people got nothing. It was mostly a simple case of not uderstanding what they were signing to. People got paid depending on the value of their properties. For some people that value dropped...dropped very much, and thus when the removal of customs duties came around, they relied heavily on that to do repairs. There was also cases where only a percentage of the value would be paid. For some it was both cases!

so say you were insured for $100,000 about 10 years ago. Ill just assume here that in that case, the value dropped to 70,000, and was paid about 15-20% of that value....$14,000

Also you have to pay a different rate for flood, contents and all type of other stuff. I mean if you pay home insurance should it not automatically cover the home & everything in it? Dn't let me get started on medical insurance.

and we live in a hurricane zone..the govt should heavily enforce or regulate the industry by directly petition to give all Bahamians a better deal wrt to insurance plans......the examples/worst case scenarios are out there...look at New Orleans, Florida (where the state of Florida is the biggest home insurance provider- citizens- why b/c the big boys dont want to take that chance with entering certain areas of the Florida market)
we need to wise up Bahamas...our people are gonna really suffer when a big one comes and hit nassau or freeport again...nevermind the family islanders...they'll be fine as they always are...their independence will see to it that they are.

Insurance! Don’t we all have a story?

I heard a joke about a man who was bitten by a snake. From his hospital bed he called his Insurance agent and asked when can they cover his expenses. The Agent replied “I am sorry sir, you only have accident coverage. The snake bite you on purpose! What you should have has is malicious damage coverage.”

From humor is much truth! :)
