Voting for Cuba to be on a human rights commission is like voting for the Klan to sit on a race relations board! Both parties know nothing about the subject! :hammer:

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! IT WAS STUPID THEN AS IS STUPID NOW!

You mean to tell me that if the FNM did something dumb in the past that gives this government a "get out of jail free" card?:gi:

However, I must research the difference between the UN's commission and council on human rights. Remember Cuba was on the commission during the FNM period...the council is something new in scope and agenda. I suggest you do the same...it may turn out to be interesting...give it a try!

Oh, by the way you did say FM did not tabled the vote in the house!:cutie:

You really need to research before you talk mister! The FNM never voted for CUBA to be a member of the UN Council on Human rights in the past...just like I thought, you and MOFA are blowing smoke...it never existed before 2006! Now Cuba was a member of the group of nations who were mandated to establish human rights standards for the forthcoming council to preside over standards written therein! For example, UN web site stated it as:

The United Nations Commission on Human Rights was established in 1946 to weave the international legal fabric that protects our fundamental rights and freedoms. It was commissioned with the whole range of human rights problems and expected to set standards to govern the conduct of States. It also acted as a forum where countries large and small, non-governmental groups and human rights defenders from around the world voiced their concerns.

During its regular annual session in Geneva, for which over 3,000 delegates from member and observer States and from non-governmental organizations participated, the Commission adopted about a hundred resolutions, decisions and Chairperson's statements on matters of relevance to individuals in all regions and circumstances. It was assisted in this work by the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, a number of working groups and a network of individual experts, representatives and rapporteurs mandated to report to it on specific issues.

The FNM voted in the past to have Cuba remained a working member country in establishment of that human rights document/standards/protocol in progress! Thus, Ingraham voted for Cuba to be a member of the commission, not the Council.

The Human Rights Council was established by the General Assembly in its resolution 60/251 of 15 March 2006. The Human Rights Council will replace the Commission on Human Rights, which will be formally abolished on 16 June 2006.

Following the historic adoption of the General Assembly resolution establishing the Council on 15 March 2006, [A/RES/60/251], UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan stated that: “Now the real work begins. The true test of the Council’s credibility will be the use that Member States make of it. That where Mr Ingraham had problems with the PLP vote for Cuba...Cuba still refuses to give common and basic human rights to its people, yet wants to sit on the council overseeing adherence to established standards?

The UN site continued: If, in the weeks and months ahead, they act on the commitments they have given in this resolution, I am confident that the Council will breathe new life into all our work for human rights, and thereby help to improve the lives of millions of people throughout the world.”

The High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Arbour, also saluted the creation of the Human Rights Council, calling its establishment “a historic opportunity to improve the protection and promotion of fundamental freedoms of people around the world.”

The Human Rights Council, to be composed of 47 Member States, will be based in Geneva and will hold no fewer than three sessions per year (including a main session) for a total period of no less than ten weeks. The Council will also be able to hold special sessions when necessary through a request by a Member of the Council with the support of one-third of the membership of the Council.

So you see, the commission (voted on in the past) was simply framers of current human rights standards but the council will be responsible for carrying them out and abatration against human rights abusers! Of which Cuba is first in line to be jugded by the same council it sits on as abatrator! Now ya see why some er we called Fred and Perry them azzses? Cuba should never be on that council...it consistantly refused it citizen those same standards it presides over...WOW!

So the next time you want to talk...get ya facts then shoot ya mouth off!:cutie:

FRED SH!T YA BIG TIME...AND YA FALL FOR IT...WELL, I DID A LIL BIT TOO...
