hmmm. I wonder who wrote this. Doesnt seem to be from a Cable Bahamas or Batelco ip address.
Thats a Batelnet IP
Do a Trace Route on the IP.
More than Likely it is the Rainbow Assoc which is linked to in the article.
Like i said many times before, Wikipedia is a human edited website so take it for what it is worth.
de redhead 05-31-06, - 06:30 AM That really annoys me. That entire tirade does nothing but try to paint The Bahamas and Bahamians in a bad light. It doesn't attempt to put any pressure on the government or any particular ministry. It just bashes Bahamians and our views. If the author of the piece feels so strongly and doesn't like the discrimination they should leave. I saw nothing constructive and no attempt to shame anyone in authority into doing anything, all they did was try to hurt the country. I wish I knew who they were so I could take out a full page ad with their name, picture and that article (possibly even where they work). Then they could receive nationwide disdain and see what real hatred feels like.

Classic response. The Wiki article is on "Gay Rights in the Bahamas"...let me repeat .......the subject matter isnt the lovely beaches of the bahamas (for that go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahamas the subject for the article you criticize is "Gay Rights in the Bahamas" not a word of it is untrue. If you dont like the facts, if you dont like how it portrays Bahamians?? do something to change the facts. I dont like them either.
chancellor 05-31-06, - 08:47 AM I still can't believe the gay shoes thing....I'd like to know whoes the principle of that school....A great knucklehead I would suppose!

You still buying into that rainbow hype. FYI: Those girls were put out of class for wearing mens shoes, thats all.A certain set of peeps tried to make more out of it than it was.
chancellor 05-31-06, - 09:07 AM According to the link it was unisex brand though....I'm wondering if it was a big deal to throw them out even if it was purely men's.
Anyway the thing is around here...PEOPLE REALLY DO BELIEVE THAT WHATEVER HAPPENS IN YOUR BEDROOM/IN PRIVATE IS YOUR BUSINESS. People are mostly pissed by people that have claimed to be rubbing it in others faces. I'm not sure if people care that much (much less want to know ....unless its some kind of valuable & damning gossip).

I agree with that. And homophobic attacks happen all over the world all the time. But this is an article detailing those attacks/issues in the bahamas. We would be doing gay travelers a disservice not to warn them about the dangers. How do you think two young (20's) gay black american men would be treated at Arawak Cay if they held hands for a minute or two...or got a quick kiss in for a photo to send their friends back home? (i actually dont know but i suspect it could be trouble....so this is a genuine question). And there are def parts of the city where i live right now (stateside) where the very same dangers exist. So i do see the potential for mislabelling the Bahamas unfairly.....i just dont think this is a case of it?

what do u call "rubbing it in others faces"?
U mean living and dressing the way u want.
Speakin the way u want?
WHy should i hide in the shadows to make YOU comfortable.......what if i now turn around and say you rubbing your hetereosexuality in my face........yea sounds stupid right.
This isssue goes beyond what a person does in their bedroom.......ITS ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS.........GAY STRAIGHT BLACK OR WHITE
chancellor 05-31-06, - 10:02 AM I dont know, there are some other places that get that kind of attention like Jamaica:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_rights_in_Jamaica
I haven't seen a person try to challenge public reaction to such affection (yet), but I do think people around here do try to restrain their opinions or desire to physically demonstrate their opinion in public, compaired to other countries and communities.
I see that it is only when a "call to action" of sorts is organized, i.e. Save the Bahamas Campaign, do people (in a group) really let everything out, and actually loose proper decorum over the whole situation, thus making us look like craze religious/homophobic nuts to the world.

i wanna know...........was there some rule stating tht they couldnt wear men's shoes?? i know for a fact tht these shoes would be more comfortable for them to walk around all day in......i personally dont think them being put out of class had anything to do with their shoes. and puttin ppl to stand in the sun?????????????? sounds like we goin back to them damn plantation days

when a minister can boldly say tht he would blow up parliament if gay were allowed to marry we know this is so.
when a teenage girl is striiped of her crown for the merefact tht she is a lesbian we know this is so.
i can go on and on..........but i think u get my point.......in one breath you persecute homosexuals and in another......when u see it affects your precious tourism market u try to come across aS welcoming?????????

What I meant by that is people who go around on a campaign or display of sorts. Take for example Gay Pride or the recent cruise. The need to always come together in a group to once again remind the world that "yes I'm gay", just in case everyone forgot over the past 12 months.
Really, I don't care how you live/dress/talk whatever else. There isn't a reall formula to what a gay person is and how he'she lives because you would be shoucked to know who is.
The point is some people are on the recieving end of homophobia because they brought it on themeselves. Some people carry around a huge bullseye, flashing around "pride" to the people who hate it the most (and in some cases they know who hates it too!).
