The service from Cable Bahamas is now really poor. Cable Bahmas has moved from "Always On" to "Seldom On". I am tired of calling Cable bahamas about their poor service.
I am now of the impression that Cable Bahamas may have oversold the service. Most afternoons the connection is slower than a snail in winter. Dial-up is now faster than cable most of the time. They are giving Batelco a strong push to see who provides the poorer service.
Where is the PUC in all of this? Does the Public utilities Commission have the capacity to monitor utlities? When their performance falters the way Cable's is declining, what can they do about it? Is PUC just another agency to facilitate feasting from the public trough?
Surely all the techies in parliament must know by now that Cable is not living up to the billing. The leaders of Cable are not acting in the best interests of shareholders by allowing the service to decline. This will have a negative impact on share value at some point. Surely they must realize that the moment a viable option appears we will switch - even if we have to switch back. Shareholders need to call the leadership of Cable to account for the threat to the value of their shares.
Clearly it was an error to allow Cable to be a monopoly. Only the government should own monopolies. Better yet there should always be competition. This should be provided for in the laws of the land. Maximum competition - once the minimum performance standards can be met.
Cable also has this insidious practice of forcing you to pay for Cable TV service even if you only want internet service. This is wrong especially when they are in a monopolistic situation. This type practice should be illegal. But don't expect your government to intervene on your behalf. It will not happen!
Why bother! Cable will continue to rob the Bahamian people. No wonder crime is so high in the Bahamas. At least when someone holds you up with a gun or knife they are being honest with you. You know you are being robbed. But Cable and their ilk rob you and then require you to respect them.
This type behaviour is why revolutions start and succeed. When people feel they are robbed too consistently by the the establishment they eventually revolt. What is good for the Bahamas so far is our revolutions have been at the ballot box - a little violent crime here and there though not directed at the exploiters. With enlightenment, this could change!
We started a website to document the poor service of organizations like Cable Bahamas. The site is called "badservicebahamas.com". In the weeks to come you will have the opportunity to present in one place all the details or poor service experiences.
