chancellor 06-27-06, - 07:54 PM I have never heard of such "notion" of segregation about this collins wall until now. I'm working on the facts about the wall. Like I said, probably later people used the wall or its remnants as a means for segregation. Of course history is written in so many ways and perspectives.
All I know is that the fact that the Collins wall was a wall built to protect the property of Mr. Collins. And what I get is that CG wants facts...recorded facts, and not myth. Many can take myth and run...to be proven wrong later. We have many other documented histories of predjudice from entrance of buildings to voting. If the wall is fact.....well its a documented fact.
And even then we dont need to keep the entire ruin of that wall if no one is going to make eforts of preservation. If you are going to keep the arch, keep the arch.
No. You are missing the point about the sentiment.
1. Do not make it sound as if people are unable to find out if they want to.
2. Do not make it seem as if, because people can not readily identify it, the notion of "segregation" and the folk lore passed down by the reason for the wall is silly and moot.
And I havent made anything sound like people are too incompetent to get facts. All I said was that many people really don't even know the basic fact behind the wall, beside the name. Was that offensive?
Alien 06-27-06, - 08:47 PM And I havent made anything sound like people are too incompetent to get facts. All I said was that many people really don't even know the basic fact behind the wall, beside the name. Was that offensive?
Those two points were not meant for you.....
They were meant for CG.
Second, the Collins wall, like the Berlin wall is a symbol of what was wrong. And a symbol of the "bad-mindedness" of some of the countries people at the time.
Whether we "re-write" the facts, and add false sentiment to the situation, is up to the historians. But, a segregated wall is a segregated wall.
chancellor 06-27-06, - 08:53 PM Well you have those points right under my quote. Fix that next time.
Well I say if the wall is such a symbol keep the arch. Fix a plaque if need be, add new masonry. We dont need the whole crumbling wall.
Alien 06-27-06, - 08:57 PM Well you have those points right under my quote. Fix that next time.
Fix what?
If you read your own posts, you would understand that it was not meant for you.
I was replying to both of you one time.
Second, would you oppose me just because I reply to you, or have because you have it mis-understood my lack of representation of the true author of sentiment?
Are you really that nutty?
:dgi:
Alien 06-27-06, - 08:59 PM The wall needs to die slowly just the way it has been. Until advancement of life takes it over. Then, we can use prejudice and remove it...but leave a reminder.
Tafadhali 06-27-06, - 09:45 PM Whether we "re-write" the facts, and add false sentiment to the situation, is up to the historians.
it is up to us to tell our history right not a select few...just like how its up to us to be honest witourselves and call ping what he really was coke associated...corrupted... victimising and a devil's advocate...I dont have to wait on any historian or anybody to tell me nothing or give me any false statement...i can find out the truth for myself...i can read and write just like them...maguerite is not the mother of my nation nor will she ever be...and we will get our $500k back please believe that! the devil is a liar and he will not win!

:dgi:
Talk about tangential.

I wasnt bashing anybody...its the truth and since we were discussing the truth I though mentioning ping and the lies and how his nefarious behaviour is sugar coated and down-played as many many would like to have us believe was quite apropos...the truth will set us al free...we must stop lying to ourselves. that collins wall and ping's misdeed represented a heinous time in bahamian history...I care to not ever go back to those days...this is why I remember and dont lie to myself or anyone for that matter...

The closest thing to Collins Wall is Spanish Wells, and more than Mr. Collins lived behind that wall. My grammy worked behind there & she told me that after 3-4 pm all blacks (maids & gardeners) had to leave.
islandgyal 06-27-06, - 10:50 PM i live here (on eleuthera), and yes, through the mid 1980s all black Bahamian workers with jobs on Spanish wells had to leave the island by sundown.
i can only think it proper karma hilarity that there are now more extremely black haitians on russell island (the island neighbouring spanish wells, for all of y'all who can't be bothered to travel your own country to learn its true history) than on st. george's cay and russell island combined.
bwah-haha-haha!

I can only hope those haitians are legal and they arent sqautting on Bahamian land.

Is your grammy still alive?
I am interested in her story.
:)

According to HI they should sue the Bahamian people for questioning whether they're legal squatters or not.:sarcastic
