I don't give two hoots about Collins or his wall...I had an issue with how you dismissed the idea that the wall is insignificant to black Bahamians. Once in our history way after the Americans passed federal laws against blatant discrimination against people of colour, the Bahamas still had signs down town and abouts that said black people enter via the black and white people only. It was not until 1967 that things started to change, and it took years after until the midset of the minority began to change. Yet still years present...White Bahamians still entreat us to just forget all the past ill treatments.

and he still has yet to apologize for his insensitivity...

resulting in keeping the majority out...
White Americans in the 60's used to do that too...increasing their property value so much that black people could never afford it.

Well...da cay is keeping Bahamians out. It is a vacation home site...no?

I have never heard of such "notion" of segregation about this collins wall until now. I'm working on the facts about the wall. Like I said, probably later people used the wall or its remnants as a means for segregation. Of course history is written in so many ways and perspectives.
All I know is that the fact that the Collins wall was a wall built to protect the property of Mr. Collins. And what I get is that CG wants facts...recorded facts, and not myth. Many can take myth and run...to be proven wrong later. We have many other documented histories of predjudice from entrance of buildings to voting. If the wall is fact.....well its a documented fact.
And even then we dont need to keep the entire ruin of that wall if no one is going to make eforts of preservation. If you are going to keep the arch, keep the arch.
And I havent made anything sound like people are too incompetent to get facts. All I said was that many people really don't even know the basic fact behind the wall, beside the name. Was that offensive?

ahh, I think they are teaching this in schools now!

Perhaps...
however, he grew up differently from us. CG see things differently from the majority of Bahamians concerning this topic...

CG not only grew up differently, he loves being in the state of mind he is in. Very bad-minded indeed.
:gi:
CG does not share the majority views on social living, culture or true ethics as it relates to the Bahamian society.
Bhudha must have taught him that!

It's beyond color. It is a cultural mindset, and "people" from his background take to the rest of us folk.
It is serious, because that typical mindset is pervasive in the people at the better economic half of this country.

You amaze me! You can tell us nothing about the Wall in question (seems no one else can either) so you confuse the issue by talking about me! That is what you always do when you have nothing to say.

Yes, there are many different classes, and views in this country. What makes you think yours has more value than mine? Shall we all think alike? Would you like me to not add my views? Don’t you want to hear the other side - or are you only interested in your side?

Many years ago White folks made the error of not wanting to hear anything that did not agree with the “facts” as they knew them - nothing that bruised their ears. They set out to demonize those that they did not like. Seems you are guilty of the same error.

You constantly say unpleasant things about me and my opinions, but that is about the only thing you can do because you don’t seem to be able to answer in any other way (to me and others on the site as well.)

The question is still out there! Give me some facts about this wall - if I had them I might even change my opinion. I can do that!

Fix what?
If you read your own posts, you would understand that it was not meant for you.
I was replying to both of you one time.
Second, would you oppose me just because I reply to you, or have because you have it mis-understood my lack of representation of the true author of sentiment?
Are you really that nutty?
:dgi:

Are you that silly? Unless it was my mistake in making assumptions and you though my post was supporting your point. Anyone who quotes someone and then posts a response like that would assume you were talking to them. And you were still replying to me anyways as you were talking to both of us.

The fact is that for many Bahamians The Collins Wall represented the worst in our white countrymen. It was a reminder that we were not welcome in many places in our own country. You probably can't see that because you were one of the priveledged few

OK! Now I think I am beginning to see! Thanks Red! It is not the wall, as a wall, we all have such things around our properties to keep unwelcome “guests” out or to secure our land, keep the dogs in, protect our cars etc. etc. The wall is a symbol, chosen for whatever reason, (perhaps it’s huge size?) to represent barriers set up in the majority’s way - not only physically, but mentally as well. Am I getting there?
