Yesterday in the Tribune there was a story on the US State Department annual report on human trafficking that was not to kind to our country.

Well, Wendell Jones decided to have that topic as his issues of the day. Without calling the relevant authorities to get their take on the report or find out from them where the US got their information from, they allowed our people to run on with the most bull crap this side of the Atlantic i had ever heard. At the end of the show there was nothing learnt.

Some of our finest citizens called in to say the US of A was MAD with us cos we voted (in secret) for Cuba the other day. Some said the US had no right to cast blame on us cos they have their own problems. Even that chronic caller Algernon Allen called to allege conspiacy or some thing of that sort. Some called to say the Tribune brought the subject up cos elections coming soon.

That report was the sixth annual report from the State Department. The report came out on June 5th.

I went to the State Department's web site to see the report myself. While i did'nt agree with every thing in the report, some things had merit.

We are a jokey people!!

We (the government on our behalf) go around with hat in hand begging when we have disasters.
We go grinning on TV when we recieve money or donations from the Americans.

Well, my grandmother use to always say, when ya go begging from people dont be surprised when they throw it in your face!!

How come when the IMF say the economy is growing, or Moody says this country is doing quite good, we dont get mad and say they dont know what they talking about?

When Condeleza Rice said we are a good friend to the US we did'nt doubt her.

When the Travel channel say we have some of the best beaches or friendliest people we accept it and figure they MUST know what they talking about.

When Conda Nast (sp) say we have one of the best tourist product in the Carribean, we happy.

But by dam, let someone issue a critism we get dead thin skinned and think of ways to say the most bad things about them. Talk about showing your TRUE colours.

All we want the American to do is come here, spend their money, invest, hire us, then keep the hell out of our business.

As a raw boned Bahamian i too have a problem with the double standards of the American government. But there is NO WAY you can accept all the accolades and not accept the critisms.

THATS MY FIVE CENTS!!!!!!!!!

Well Wendal Jones and his plagerist sidekick Godfrey arent exactly bastians of intelligent, balanced, well read and well exposed talk and debate..though he consistantly praises his sunday show, for instance, as being the "larry king live of the bahamas"...so Im not at all surprised.

These are men who consistantly discuss issues on which they are not fully informed or educated, or in which their bias is clearly seen..but because they honor their own opinions so much, they believe that if they say it, it automatically becomes the fact of the matter.:hammer:

I'm not saying this in response to the human trafficking report..my comments are in general regarding "Fannity & Nomes".

I guess we don't like to take criticism because we know our own faults too well and cringe to see that people on the outside see it too, and not only see it, but can also tell just as well as us if the problem is getting better or worse.

We are a nation that constantly looks for validation. We even need foreign opinon on whether our own economy is doing good!

Boi.....u r a smart young man!

I have found that complacency and complaining seem to be ingrained in too many of us.If folks were more self critical and willing to remedy their own shortcomings, they wouldn't tolerate complacency in the public arena either.Perhaps then we wouldn't be such an easy target for anyone to criticise.:gi:

Plus Bahamians tend to be a very defensive bunch plus a very proud set of people.
