Hi o3parietal very well said I would need to get my dictionary out to read it again.
I have some problem with your break down of the word homosexual.
Homos exual na that’s not right homo sexual now that’s right and homo means man.
Now Lesbian comes from the inhabitants of the Greek isle of Lesbos.
Yes, I agree. But no, I didn't break it down that way. I'm sorry, I should've been clearer.
"Homos" is the root word where "homo" comes from. "Homo" is Modern Latin for "man" but it's more like slang. For it's related to "humus." It's why we're called "human."
Allow me to provide a live example:
It would be like saying "dreadsexuality."
Bahamians today (Modern Dialect) would understand this to mean --sex with 'dreads'-- one of many terms in the Bahamian vernacular for 'males'.
But to say "dreadsexuality" using the correct root of the word "dread"...
--- from the Old English word ondrædan "counsel or advise against," also "fear," from on- "against," second element of the word (drædan) is of uncertain origin; the prefix "on" wore off after the 12th century.
It really means, 'sex with fear.' Consider it a case for semantics. It may seem a petty point to make but...
Now suppose, if you will, centuries down the road (if the human race hasn't blown itself to smithereans by that time) a member of the Council protests, "Sex with people who have Dreadlocks is evil." And so all people who have dreadlocks are castigated simply because they are lumped together with men who sleep with men. "Dreadsexuailty."
Ignorance evolves. As it has today.
Let see if I get what you are saying. You believe in treating all humans the same and with respect as long as they do the same. Yup.
You also believe in equal human rights under the law even if the law is unequal?????!!! Also those that the law deals with unequally should not try to change it as it might change your life.
Yes, I believe in equal human rights. I don't live by the law. It's imperfect. I feel I don't need the law to tell me to respect my fellow human beings. It just so happens that the standards and personal beliefs I have doesn't conflict with the law. When it does, then I guess that'll make me a criminal. Though in some cases the law does protect me, in others it leaves me naked and raped.
Wow! I am surprised by your closing statement: "I don't live by the law. It's imperfect." That it may be but what are you looking for, perfection? That is not possible because what is perfection for some is imperfection for another. We cannot all agree 100% but we do the best we can. I should imagine that if you were to be put in charge of re-writing the laws there would soon be another o3parietal type who would call your laws imperfect.
"I feel I don't need the law to tell me to respect my fellow human beings." So where did you learn this respect?
"It just so happens that the standards and personal beliefs I have doesn't conflict with the law." We are lucky that you and the law agree. Perhaps it is not just your doing. Perhaps there is a universal law that is in the hearts of all men, even if many choose not to follow it.
"When it does, then I guess that'll make me a criminal." Yes it will!
"Though in some cases the law does protect me, in others it leaves me naked and raped." There is that imperfection again! But by and large, the law serves you as well as it does the next man.
You strike me as one of those persons who coinciders themselves to be a law unto themselves! And there is where a lot of the trouble in the world begins.
o3parietal 09-05-03, - 11:04 PM Perhaps.
Empathy.
Perhaps.
So be it then.
Disputable.
You are a person of few words (sometimes.) I admire that! ;)
Vicky 09-06-03, - 05:54 PM Hi o3parietal I have dyslexia so I did not get past high school even though I was an A B student in the class room I just could not finish the timed test. So thanks for the break down. Homosexual still does not equal bestiality or pedophile
The horse is fast and the horse is fast or better yet I am gay and I am gay.

I wholy agree, hence the danger of lumping, those who say, "they're all the same thing" or treat them all the same way do so in ignorance.

And I thought this thread was about a National Lottery! Why do most of you writers seem to veer off in so many unrelated directions/topics or am I missing something here? Please enlighten me because I may have denuded eyes! ;) Whatever the hell that means.
Yes we do tend to stray from the point. Yet, sometimes these variations from the theme are part of the problem under debate, or it appears to be so by the writer. It is good though to have someone to pull us back to the point from time to time.

Yes I agree.
Lets get back to the original topic.
Delroy 09-09-03, - 06:04 PM Like all things that God created for mans’ enjoyment and benefit; Satan distorts for his own purpose. From sex to drugs to music and yes, even gambling has been counterfeited by Satan. These situations may seem complicated but they are quite simple to understand and resolve from a biblical approach.
Gambling is wrong when used for the gain of another’s loss (especially money).
Look at the costs for a minute; and I will use the Bahamas as an example.
When Bahamian looses a home for any reason not just gambling it affects all of us.
That is one family without a home that our Social Services department has to attend to. That means an increase in taxes for us.
Call the Mortgage Department and ask them how many Bahamians have lost and will loose their homes this year. Then ask them what the reason was for them not being able to pay their Mortgages on time.
Here is the answer: Financial Debt.
No wonder the Central Banks has ordered a hold on all loans from commercial banks. And now this hold on loans is affecting Bahamians who need it to start businesses, pay medical bills and other important things. This is and will continue to result into a drop in the over all progression of the Bahamas because no new businesses means no new jobs and no new jobs means more crime, poverty and depression. Do you see where this is leading? The Bible say that you shall reap what you sow.
The Excuse:
We use the excuse that people are entitled to make their own decisions about what they should do with their money. This is true! We should have this freedom but like I tell everyone “freedom comes with restrictions”. Who in here would agree that is right for a man who has a family to put his family’s welfare at risk because he believes that he has the right number today (so his dream says)? Yet this happens everyday in this country.
Here comes the question:
What restriction can we place on Gambling to insure that no family is affected financially by it and our country doesn’t fall into a worse debt? The only restriction that will insure this is to remove money or loss ownership of anything from the subject.
There goes all the fun out of gambling!
Another excuse that is used by the Government especially is that casinos bring in allot of money into the country? That is true but only half way.
Let’s look at the costs again:
Call Atlantis and ask them how many times a year a person wins in their casino and how many times do they loose. Believe it or not either way they loose and we loose. Nobody wins in Gambling. Nobody!
If a person wins in any casino in the Bahamas that means we all loose because that is money that will leave this country for another.
You may ask: What if the casino wins like they often do?
That’s means one or more less tourist for the Bahamas next year.
Or let me try some scenarios. Let’s say one of the tourists who loose all of his money is a business owner (which many of them are) and the money that he lost was his employee’s vacation pay for that year. Let’s say he has about 1000 employees who all where planning to visit the Bahamas this year and bring their families with them. Let’s say he is an Airline or cruise ship owner. What if he owns a travel agency (which many of them are)? I can go on and on but you do the math.
A person gambling his life savings here or on the other side of the world will hurt us all in some way.
Don’t be deceived people.
Know the whole truth.
The devil will never show you what goes on behind the scenes only Jesus can do that.
We don’t need casinos and we don’t need to gamble when God has promised to bless us when we do what is right. We will prosper more as a country if we do what is right and seek the Truth.

What right dose a man have to borrow money from a bank by putting his family’s home up for collateral to invest his money in a business, it might fail. Result loss of family home. Or how about investing in stocks? How about when Christopher Columbus sailed here for the first time? This is all gambling.

That’s an idea close the casino and you pay the people wages. We have nothing to trade with the rest of the world but for services. So we must provide a service that people want.

Lets try this 1
The Tourist comes down and dose not gamble and the women who would have been his waitress while he was at he tables losing/winning his money, Now did not get the tips and pay as she would have. She goes home with out enough money and she has to choose between feeding here children or paying the rent.

Vicky 09-10-03, - 02:37 PM Gambling is about risk odds and reward for the risk against the odds.
A man invests in a business (risk) He works hard and hopes all will go as planed but there is a chance that something can go wrong (odds) and in about a year or 2 the business begins to pay its own bills. In five years it thriving (reward) or it could fail (lose).
A businessman has an opportunity to buy a widget that he knows someone wants this exact widget but it will take most of his money to get the widget. The buyer looking for the widget says he is still looking for a widget. So the businessman buys the widget. (Risk) He goes the next day to deliver the widget and collect the money for the sale. How ever the buyer had a heart attack and died. (Odds) So no sale and he is stuck with a widget he does not have a sale for (in this case lose).
Delroy 09-10-03, - 04:18 PM Maybe you didn’t read my post carefully Vicky or maybe you are intentionally ignoring some points that I made.
Here is what I said:
“Gambling is wrong when used for the gain of another’s loss (especially money).”
Borrowing money from a bank is not gaining from the loss of another.
That’s why banks require collateral. If a man is willing to risk the welfare of his family and home by investing in a business project that has a potential to fail and in so failing cost him his home and family; he is a fool. Any financial advisor would tell you not to places yourself or your family in such a position.
Investing is not gaining from the loss of another.
Stocks are shared and exchanged between buyers and sellers.
If a trader place his investments into a bad stock; he loses and nobody gains from his loss. Not even the company he invested into.
Please show me your quotes in the Bible.
The Bible says that God created everything Vicky.
John 1:3 “All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.”
All things Vicky!
I get it adults should not be responsible for their choices and the law should make them for us.
Laws should be applied when choices are made that affect other people in a bad way. As long as we live in this world we are all on the same boat Vicky.
That’s an idea close the casino and you pay the people wages. We have nothing to trade with the rest of the world but for services. So we must provide a service that people want.
I guess we should legalize prostitution like Nevada?
I just gave you an illustration showing you that casinos do not benefit us one bit but I guess you ignored that part also. Closing these casinos will do more good than bad for the Bahamas.
We have noting to trade because we spend so much of our time and resources in this hospitality industry. In order to trade something you must first produce it. God help us all when the FTAA arrives!
Lets try this 1

No! Let’s try this one Vicky:
The Tourist comes down and does not gamble and the women who would have been his waitress while he was at he tables losing/winning his money is now his waitress at one of the hotel restaurant. She caters to the Tourist so well and since he doesn’t have a casino to waste his money in after dinner; he decides to give her a huge tip for being such a nice waitress. She goes home with enough money to buy that house that she always wanted for her and her children. No more rent. :) Halleluiah!
Yeah but who’s version of right is right.
Let God be true and every man be a liar.

I thought people gamble in the casino not only to win but to have some fun while vacationing in the Bahamas. Delroy you seem to imply that most persons who gamble for monetary rewards are irresponsible. I am certain most tourists are not like that. When were Fun and Enjoyment kicked out of the christian lifestyle, because you certainly have a hard time appreciating it. There seems to be evil in every human behavior and Satan lurks in the darkness egging people on as far as you are concerned. No shades of gray at all. Delroy I hope the ideas you espouse in this forum are only to enliven the debate and not your personally held beliefs because if they are, you should be closely monitored by a professional. You are scary sometimes!

If I let God be true and every man a liar then tell me, which pastor should I listen to when attending a church service? :liar:

Truthseeker,
I never said that most persons who gamble are irresponsible.
Gambling to gain from the loss of another is irresponsible.
The truth is that most people who gamble don't know that they are hurting other people by doing so. Just like persons who download copyrighted music for free or use DirecTV Systems without a subscription.
Hosea 4:6 says "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge".
The Bahamas is being destroyed for lack of knowledge.
"because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee,"
"seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children. "
Every belief that I have comes from the Bible and the Bible comes from God. So it isn't me that is scaring you. It’s God!
The truth is scary sometimes but we need it to survive.
