Sticking to the plain-speaking manner that has come to characterise his utterances in and outside the halls of parliament, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources Leslie Miller on Monday criticised the government for not doing enough to support Bahamian manufacturers and producers.

well, it's the first declaration in a long while from him that has made sense! my dream is that the bahamas will actually soon adopt a 'bahamas first' policy, because we have so many exceptional local resources that are overlooked simply because an inferior comparable product is available for cheaper from walmart in the states. the bahamian economy will go nowhere until bahamians ... buy bahamian as much as possible.

This isn't nothing new from him,I heard him say the exact same thing a few months ago when speaking to a group of technocrats.Say what you want about the man,he's proud of the skills Bahamians display. And this in itself is rare in politicians of today.I would venture to say you would have to search high & far before you can find another that believes in Bahamian intellect as he does.

Miller seems unspoiled by all of the corruption and victimization scandals the PLP has been accruing.
But, he also has been put on the outside of the power structure.
LOL...
I guess you pay a price for speaking your mind.

Well bro..he might be PROUD of our skills..but he sure dont SUPPORT the fruit of dat labour..in his own words nah, not mine. Cuz the other day when he was on Issues of the Day or Jones and Co., one of those shows - he was talking about 'Bahamas first' and 'buying Bahamian', etc.

Then he was asked - so does your ministry purchase Bahamian goods and support Bahamian vendors? - lol..homey turned right around and said no..we buy most of our supplies and goods from the STATES!!!! lol:bouncy:

This question pertained to HIS ministry ya know! lol. Ofcourse he has control of whether his Ministry decides to buy products/goods at home or buys them from the States or China, etc.:sailing:

I remember him talking about this earlier (maybe last year or earlier this year). I agree that we should support more Bahamian made goods but at the same time Bahamian producers have to produce high quality products. If they are genuinely good products that are priced right, I am sure Bahamians will demand them.

Take for example Purity Bread. I assume its a Bahamian product and I know its made here and IMO its a pretty solid product. I dont mind buying it over foreign owned Wonder.

Now lets look at those wanna-be Bahamian made tissue or paper-towels. I dont even remember the brands cuz I make sure we dont buy them. You probably know what I'm talking about. They are usually one-ply (or seem so) and over-priced.

I wouldnt hesitate to purchase Bounty or those foriegn ones cuz they are usually of higher quality.

Just my opinion.
