Why do persons call the place City Meat or City Meat Market? Is there some special story behind it. I only see 'City Market' on, inside or around the stores and hear ppl call it City Meat.
Got an explanation...?

at times...you can find that on the internet...sir stafford sands own them and he sold it to the Americans...why he didnt want to sell it to Bahamians is beyond me...but out of spite...its back in Bahamian hands now...even if it was over-priced and some cross action almost conflict of interest going down in the sale...I blame it on the Bahamian market being so small...or not enough players in the market due to the shady practices of business on the ground.

Back then only a handful of Bahamians had that kind of money. Many were white and many left at the same time that Sir Stafford did. He would have known or known of every Bahamian with the means to purchase the stores at the time so I am sure he considered them all. He may have been able to find a buyer but it may have been difficult (just speculating here).
Then again it may have just been spite (kind of like cutting off your nose to spite your face).
