i wonder if Perry knew of this malaria scare when he visited Exuma to open his casino? Did he go and get a check-up before and after his visit? Are all these cases of malaria "imported"? because if not prepare for 10% of Exuma to be infected (est 550 residents)...this is a crying shame...I still can't believe it...Malaria in The Bahamas!

im believe im getting conflicting stories...

in one journal article is says there are no A. mosquitoes in our island these cases are imported ... (http://www.jonesbahamas.com/?c=45&a=9112)

The ministry’s release also noted that there have been no discoveries of the Anopheles mosquito in Exuma, leading health experts to believe there will be no further local transmission of malaria. Malaria is transmitted through the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito, which bites at night.

and in another the ministers says... (http://www.jonesbahamas.com/?c=45&a=9110)

Minister of Health Dr. Bernard Nottage has reported that the Anopheles mosquitoes have not been found in Exuma in great numbers, but he said residents should remain constantly aware of the current situation and pay attention to all advisories from the Ministry.

...it seems to me like the minister is being dishonest..or at best the MOH is trying to sugar coat how serious this is...how did these mosquitoes get here...the out isalnds were rural and suffering from isolation before why now is our nation- we would like to believe isnt third world is suffering from an outbreak of malaria...this is a national disgrace...our babies are dying because our govt doesnt like to pay its bills for vaccine purchases and now we have a third world disease in our midst...prepare for over 500 people to be infected ladies and gentleman...this is a crying shame...

I know Perry got his malaria shot before and after the visit to Exuma for his event Obie should have been doing anyway!:sparky:

All I have to say is that we need to give credit where credit is due...thanks Perry and the PLP government for making The Bahamas a tourist country with malaria.

When FNM was in power early in the morning around 2-3am during raining season and summer, you would hear those spray trucks up and down the streets. Now, not one truck. A MD at PMH just confirmed this morning a case of malaria in Nassau. Thank You PLP :sarcastic

Glad you picked up on that...because I immediately saw the same thing this morning. Obviously the message changed between Tuesday and Wednesday to quell tourism-related fears.

You are right! The stronger one’s immune system the better chance one has to fight off such illnesses should one get bitten.

Doubt thinking, or not would make any difference here.

This quote reminds me of statements in 1992 which blamed The FNM for hurricane Andrew. Some claimed God was punishing us. I had always thought that was the most foolish political statement I had ever heard, until today. Thank you WinterGrace :sarcastic

This is so incredibly flippin dumb to even suggest jokingly.
How do you blame anyone for Malaria?

They do have traces in America to don't they?
If you house caught a fire, people would blame the government.

Fact is, illegal immigrants, and shanti-towns "which we had for years", are a root cause for infectious diseases.
Ghad damned partisan hacks!
