No big deal..its not illegal for use in your home, etc..only if you are providing telecommunications service to people here for fees. The PUC can confirm this..so I say "GO VONAGE" baby.

The head of the PUC told me the PUC has no jurisdiction over personal use of VoIP, it PUC is only legislated to regulate telecommunications providers.

So if a negro wanna try to roll up in my house and pull da plug on my vonage I wish he would..we would be writing bout D.O.A instead of VoIP!

$300,000 seems more of a fine one would place on a provider. (Would that be VONNAGE?) To put the same fine on a single user seems odd not to mention excessive! Maybe the Journal left something out?

Don’t use VOIP myself. I use the internet to send emails. I can’t remember when I made an overseas call! I am sure emailng is cutting into BTC’s profits too.

well BTC has nothing to do with cable internet..so DSL could fly south.

When did BTC try to stop Instant Messaging? It is a wonder we are allowed to email! At least they are getting revenue from those of us who are still with Batelnet.....they should appreciate us, surely? In a sense we are paying for VOIP, Instant Messaging, etc. If they really clamp down, they will lose all their DSL customers to Cable.

I have VOIP for a long time now.Trouble is.....it is only as reliable as the cable bahamas signal.When it is up and strong it works perfect,when it is down,man am I pi..ed.Oh well we in da Bahamas ya know!

There are hundreds if not thousands of Vonage users out there. If such practice is so illegal then they should do something about the importation or thse products. I am sure some goverement customs agent charged duties on a Vonage Phone.

Also, that makes talking to a bud in the US or Canada in MSN Messenger with a mic illegal.

You can call anyone with skype, and the quiality of audio is much much better. Skype is the Present and future of VOIP.
