All of these budget cuts are the bi product of war, and lower tax cuts.

It seems the Bahamas is benefitting much more than the US. So why isn't the Bahamas sponsoring this facility??

Good question...cuz right now with the billions of dollars per month the U.S is spending on this war - they aint trying to fund nothing that dont have a missle on the end of it!

The article didn't mention the operational budget. I bet the Department of Fisheries could sponsor at least half of it -- I'm assuming its something small like maybe 1.5 to 2 million a year. Or maybe I'm jumping to conclusions. I'm assuming that the Fishing industry is severely lacking in structure. It should be more self-sustaining -- with a more structured industry it could be.

The Ministry of Fisheries to administer and sponsor R&D. The fishing industry pays dues to the ministry to support the ministry's efforts. More accountability without all of the hustling going on. But I guess that's with anything in the Bahamas -- things would work better with more structure.

I'm wondering if that would be possible now that the budget has been drawn up. Whether some funds could be withdrawn from certain areas and redirected in this direction. I am sure that this project is extremely beneficial and must have played some part in the recent introduction of a season for grouper fishing. Some creative budget juggling needs to be done, perhaps stake holders in the fisheries industry could lend assistance.

NOt to mention Fredricka Michelle, voting and supporting communist countries in the name of the Bahamas, top of the list.

Definitely agree there. Although, is the ministry independent enough to carry out something like this?? Considering the Minister of Fisheries has and will always have a political affiliation?? Maybe its time to severe that umbilical cord. Have independent goverment agencies but with governmental oversight commitees.

I definitely don't think that a Minister has this kind of budgetary discretion, it will likely have to be a Cabinet decision. Even that may be difficult to pull off as budgets have to be approved by The House and Senate and I don't think anyone can just go making changes after the fact.
