I really want to hear from you. k.o.o.l.b.o.n.z.e 09-04-03, - 06:10 PM no i am not afraid. i know all about the dangers of the streets as i am a high school student that has to walk home everyday and has already taken part in many scuffles on my route home. but i remain unafraid because it won't solve anything. i suggest that people teach thier kids and some adults also how to defend themselves (i'm a third degree brown belt in karate) because people are getting more and more desperate every day and will go to great lengths to get what they want. i wouldnt mind to see police officers patrolling areas known for violent attacks (not gang related) but i dont expect anything of anyone anymore so i just deal with it... chancellor 09-04-03, - 08:08 PM when i go to nassau i have a sence of insecurity. cant wait to get back home. Imagine, feeling unsafe in your own national capital. what is my homeland ccoming to. CG 09-04-03, - 10:16 PM Chancellor, you asked, "what is my homeland coming to?" I echo that question. Thanks for your input. Anyone else? Lets hear from you. k.o.o.l.b.o.n.z.e 09-05-03, - 11:04 PM i guess you have to be of a certain age to be acknowledge but just in case you missed it i did in fact leave a comment ^^^ CG 09-05-03, - 11:38 PM My sincere apologies k.o.o.l.b.o.n.z.e.. I did read your posting but somehow I fail to acknowledge it. I am sorry that, in your words, "....i dont expect anything of anyone anymore so i just deal with it..." I am glad you deal with it, but sorry you don't expect anything. I think you should expect it and you should make a noise until you get it! I also hold a brown belt in Budoj'ujtsu. I have studied the art of the Samurai. What is your discipline? Do you still practice? The one thing I found in studying these arts is that it made me LESS violent in my nature. One would think that the opposite would be true. Have you found that also? Rory 09-10-03, - 10:18 PM heck yeah! I have yard beams that are tripped by attempted burglars on a weekly basis, they just dont learn. I have trip ropes set up all over the place now, hoefully thpse tresspassers will get HURT one of these times and learn by their mistakes! I have cameras, and much more. I carry weapons anywhere I go. If I had the cash, Id have a bullet proof vest, and if this was a TRULY free country, Id carry a handgun. This island is full of crime, like there is no tomorrow, there is no escape, and it doest matter where you live anymore. Just means they come to me at 6am in the morning while they are by someone in the ghetto at 8pm at night! (I live on Eastern Rd in a garage apt by the way, not a rich white night, just get interpreted wrong) Anyway, as for deaths, there really still isnt a whole lot of it yet, if you look at other countries, but we do have too much burglaries and violent crimes here, from machete attacks, rock attacks, to regular stabbings. Even the so called normal people carry knives as a self defence weapon, which shows how screwed up we are. Knives or machets will never be considered self defence, unless you grab one in the heat of the moment as you are being attacked, in other words if you have it on your person or carry it in your car, its illegal; might as well carry a gun! As for martial arts, I studdied in them years ago, and held a several belts in several arts, but guess what, at night when being held up with UZIs, or having rocks thrown at you or bottles, it wont help, not in nassau. PS. black pathers are a militant racist group as are the KKK, just FYI CG 09-11-03, - 10:36 AM Sounds like you are having a hard time Rory. More than most folks. You said "As for martial arts, I studied in them years ago, and held a several belts in several arts, but guess what, at night when being held up with UZIs, or having rocks thrown at you or bottles, it wont help, not in Nassau." Yes, you are right there. One would have to be very skillful indeed to overpower a man with any kind of gun. But the object of the Martial Arts is not always to "win" in battle, it is to survive (even if that means running away!) and by surviving you win! I have no doubt that, if you were trained properly, the skills you learned have allowed you to survive. You also said, "PS. Black Panthers are a militant racist group as are the KKK, just FYI." I have read many of their writings (both groups) and I doubt anyone could draw any other conclusion, other that the one you stated. k.o.o.l.b.o.n.z.e 09-11-03, - 06:16 PM i know, but i'm thinking you're refering to the NEW balack panther party led by the former nation of islam member. but back to the topic...but you're right things are getting worse but you neglected to mention the countless people carryin brass knucles, punch knives, i've also seen many teens carry guns but we live in a age of violence. today i had someone attempt to intimidate me but only end up getting embarrassed in many ways for his troubles. martial arts teaches you that fighting is a last resort in case there is no other way to save your life. and CG I currently hold a 3rd degree brown belt in shotokan karate but plan to continue into other martial arts. CG 09-11-03, - 07:53 PM You said, "....martial arts teaches you that fighting is a last resort in case there is no other way to save your life." Right you are. You have been trained well! You went on to say "......I currently hold a 3rd degree brown belt in Shotokan Karate but plan to continue into other martial arts." I don't know that much about Shotokan Karate. I am sure it is very good. Do you practice here? Is there a Dojo in Nassau? As for you continuing in other Martial Art - good! There is much to learn that is of great benefit. You began your post by saying "....I know, but I'm thinking you're referring to the NEW black panther party led by the former nation of Islam member." Perhaps I am, but was the old one any better? Perhaps you should open a new thread and tell us about it. venesha 09-15-03, - 11:44 AM when i go to nassau i have a sence of insecurity. cant wait to get back home. Imagine, feeling unsafe in your own national capital. what is my homeland ccoming to. I know for a fact that there a crimes being committed in Freeport as well, maybe it does frightened you but think about it, if you would look at Iraq and those other countries that are fighting against each other you should give God some praise that it's not our country, and "Freeport" come on let's be real I use to live in Freeport for about two years and I must say it's a quiet place to live in but there are rapest, petifilers, freaks, gays, sexual offenders and might I say muderers. Catch a grip on the real world sir, it seems as though you prefer to stay in Freeport so you might have longivity but when it's your time to go you have to go , you can't run from death so it doesn't really matter what you think of New Providence, I mean your opinion counts don't get me wrong but face the facts crime is every where.Tell me something if you consider Nassau to be a bad place then what do you call Freeport?, a place where your kids are not safe walking home, someone kidnapping your kids without a trace, people being raped, you being threatened for your life, and people being murdered.I'm sorry to say this but like I said earlier crime is every where, it's best you move to an outer island where you may die from diabetes or maybe old age. :rip: Zire 08-07-05, - 10:40 AM hol on nah, i's a bahamian and live in nassau nah i know ders alot of gay dawtas dem out here, der ain no rapists nah dont start any bs like that i ine gern lie ders alot of dem petifilers around but dem dawtas is the ones to blame not us, i not sure what you mean by freaks but the only ones who are freaky are yall, come on i can understand the murder issues our own just seem to be public because its easy to find bodys obviously for our little island, but tell me what do you class murder as? if you dont see it in the paper you arent afraid come on... there's murder every where we just have a number to go by, remember just because you dont hear about murders doesnt mean there arent any your own family could be doing such a thing and you wouldnt know crap about it or you wont care unless you read it in the paper i presume. Ting-um 08-07-05, - 01:03 PM Off Topic: Black Panthers are a reactionary group. Big difference from the KKK. On Topic: I dunno what Nassau is like now. I grew up in between Kemp Road, Nassau Village and The Grove. I wouldn't say I'm afraid, I'm more or less just tired. Even after leaving the Bahamas I went to live in Little Rock around the same time they filmed "Bangin' in Little Rock" -- when it had the US' highest murder rate. Moved north closer to Memphis only to find out that Memphis now has the country's second highest murder rate. There's only so far you can run. Sooner or later somebody will find you and back you into a corner. Your choices will be limited after that. So you either do something now when you have a choice or you do something when someone has the point of a knife pressed against your jugular. Vicky 08-10-05, - 07:09 AM Am I afraid of crime, Am I afraid of being murdered not really death is as much a part of life as life it self. I do not welcome death I would love to be 27 know what I know now and live forever. Am I afraid for my family yes I don't want to see any harm come to them. I have a gun, an alarm on my shop and dogs. I did 7 years Tae kwon do under 2 different teachers. The last teacher had the most impact on my life. He was a retired professional fighter from Korea best I can describe him is he was like Mr. Meaggi from "Karate Kid" As far as belts went He did not use color belts, It is where you stood in his class that mattered. He said "a belt might be used as a weapon so would the color matter?" Vicky 08-10-05, - 07:14 AM I know for a fact that there a crimes being committed in Freeport as well, maybe it does frightened you but think about it, if you would look at Iraq and those other countries that are fighting against each other you should give God some praise that it's not our country, and "Freeport" come on let's be real I use to live in Freeport for about two years and I must say it's a quiet place to live in but there are rapest, petifilers, freaks, gays, sexual offenders and might I say muderers. May I ask what does homosexuality have to do with crime in the Bahamas??? Hey you see I did not bring it up I am responding to someone else who did. |
