View Full Version : Marcus Bethel dont wait...leave now!
Tafadhali 06-28-06, - 12:33 PM This makes me think why was he there in the first place...some people are simply caught up in themselves...The things that come out of these PLP's mouths!
Who does this man think he is...the nerve the audacity the gall of this "appointed" politicall impotent and unimpressive lacklustre degenerate to think that giving us a heads up in his leaving at the end of the year is doing us all a favour...we dont owe you nothing Dr. Bethel...you owe us!
We havent forgotten...it was on your watch that the babies died because they didnt get vaccines...in this first world country we in the bahamas would like to believe we have this should have never happened...and your a medical doctor for christ sake! Dont wait...leave now!
I recall when the Bush Administration recently changed it chief of staff...the first day on the job the man said if anyone plans on leaving before the end of the year...dont wait until then... leave now! The White House Press Secretary left not long after...all this to say...dont waste out time if the "private sector is calling" once again...by all means go! dont wait...leave now!...and whatever you do dont sign that LNG foolishness before you leave...all this environmental degradation and pillage our natural environment can't take anymore...Continue to say no to LNG!
...dont insult our intelligence just leave now!!!
islandgyal 06-28-06, - 01:02 PM on the other hand, i happen to think that dr. bethel made for the best minister of health we've ever had. a doctor by training vs. another political hack ... what a concept! out island clinics, while still not perfectly-equipped, were able to stop begging winter residents for urgent supplies.
proven outsider hacks who wanted to take advantage our good nature and set up fake alternative oncology treatment centers so as to fleece vulnerable citizens were thankfully turned away at the border, showing that for a brief moment ... there WAS a single ministry not for sale to the highest bidder.
the bethels are smart bahamians, and a strong family.

strawman argument alert! strawman argument alert!
Strong family smart Bahamians...that's beautiful and all fine and good my Bahamian sister...but my thing is if your going to leave...dont wait leave now...dont waste our time...leave now! just go!
islandgyal 06-28-06, - 01:12 PM perhaps, but depends on your point of view.
girlfriends of mine run the hatchet bay and harbour island clinics, and they're grateful that he's not just up and taking off. when he leaves, his excellent permanent secretary and possibly ron pinder will go with him ... and they have been hands-on with regard to environmental impact issues in local eleuthera clinics, airport emergency services, waters, dumpsites.
dr. nottage seems like a nice enough guy, but no one knows what real-life experience he has managing a farflung network of hospitals, clinics, research centers that lead largely non-political lives, i.e. NOT sexy or headline-grabbing or sensational. his only gift to date since returning to the plp fold has been largely that of gab.

Sad to say the Bethels are just as smart Bahamian as any other "strongly connected" political family...gettin over mostly because of who they know...check em out! There are many good "Bahamian" families with just a good or better track records and capable people as the Bethels or any of them political families...being kept out of the national limelight because of their political affiliation...which is p!ss poor if ya ask me! Nuff said about the Bethel family!:cutie:
Now I register my sentiment just as Taffy said...LEAVE NOW...slimmy bastid! By the way! Who do you think is keeping our public medical cost so high because he thinks that we should not prevent illegal Haitians from flooding the public health centers nor reoprt them as illegal after treating them once...even though his administrators told him that the situation has reached crisis proportions!
I am going to admit that I come into this post with a preconcieved bias...I always thought that Dr. Bethel was not the right man for that job! Now I take a wait and see approach to Dr Nottage...I think that he is a more likey person to make some significant impact on the medical situation the modern Bahamas finds itself into.:cutie:
islandgyal 06-28-06, - 01:53 PM it's all well and good to say in the heat of political debate that we shouldn't be inoculating illegal immigrants, but the fact is that these children are in our schools and public areas.
and they're here among us because bahamians are hiring them. if there were no jobs to be had here, they'd still be trying to float across the gulf stream to miami just like their cuban brethren.
it would be far more expensive to wait until an infected child impacted an entire community with measles or chicken pox or whatever, rather than inoculate in the first place.

You have to treat everyone that seeks treatment, that is a given.

I agree...pre-emptive strike! but at the same time imagine if we didnt have all these illegal mothers flooding our hospitals...would the infant mortality rate be so high? is part of the reason because we are flooded with non Bahamian woman taking advantage of this situation...Im not sure, but it can explain a lot...ya think? I would be remiss if not stating that his bias could lie in him being married to a Haitian national...Talk about Bahamians first!

how politically correct...diplomatic even...
but what about scarcity? were only 300K so big...money and resources are an issue here...we already are going over-budget spending what we dont have yet, when is enough, enough? folks dont want to take these into consideration and this is why...I thought Mr. Roker's statement about payback time is so very on point and quite apropos we better take heed. i respectfully realize that i don't live in a war zone like nassau or mudd or pigeon pea, so i perhaps don't appreciate the urgency of the anti-haitian mindset. the haitian community in north eleuthera and harbour island and immediate area continues to make significant contributions to the local community.
you make a comment that dr. bethel is married to a haitian as though it's shocking news of his presumed partiality, when in fact bahamians have been intermarrying with bajans and trinidadians and haitians and dominicans and jamaicans throughout our complete history.
yes, i wish that they were all legally here. fact is, many of them ARE, which nuance seems to be completely missing from the present debate. as we saw with the harbour island smackdown, all haitians are presumed to be here illegally at the moment until they show their ID card. talk about present-day apartheid!

This has everything to do with him being an apparent nice person. Why insult him and attack him, just because he seems to be on a different side of the ball than you!?!?
:dgi:
You went off on a bashfest on the poor guy...when he is only openly considering retiring.
That is not fair in my view.
:)

How do you make that argument to a Bahamian tax payer who can't find a bed in PMH, can't get their child into a class because there is no room while 20 to 25 % of the children in the same class are illegal immigrant children, or can't get a low cost home while illegals build any damn where they please and worst of all..."openly" smuggle people, drugs and guns. The situation has gone mad...the malaria outbrake is case in point! We don't have to become inhuman...but we can't remain strategically retarded either!
Hey...there is a point when sticking heads in the sand becomes lunacy and dangerous! I believe Dr. Bethel presents one of those clear and present dangers! :cutie:
