Sunshine...u so right! Hugo will soon own more of da Bahamas den dos american homeowners if we een careful! Problem is...we een eva ga make a penny offn' Hugo either,at least da homeowners spend, spend ,spend.
I into da alternative energy, but I think fuel cell technology will be da ultimate answer.

Is that the thing with were you would use hydrogen or something?

fuel cell technology? please educate us...:bahamas:

A fuel cell consists of a gas passed over a membrane which would trigger the release of energy inthe form of electrical current, heat, and depending on the gas used either water or water, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The membrane is used up during this process and is one of the costs of operation of the devices. The membranes contain platinum and are expensive. The advantage of fuel cells are that they reduce some of the noxious gases which are produced. The bad thing is that when using hydrogen as the "fuel" there is a substantial hit as the hydrogen requires a lot of energy to produce it. When using propane as the "fuel" there is no hit in that regard but CO and CO2 are produced and are substantial contributors to the green house effect. Either way fuel cells are rarely cheaper to operate than diesel generators. There are some operations in The US and Europe that provide them to home owners as both primary and secondary power sources but on a very limited scope. I enquired about the possibility of purchasing one once but was told that factory installation was mandatory.

Until their efficiency is improved a bit more they will be more expensive than diesel. If fuel prices continue to soar they may be cost effective using natural gas or propane.

i saw a snippet of it on youtube...I was gona post a link...I think big oil killed it...what you think? I think big oil killed the ethanol movement in the 80's as well...and Brazil never stopped that's why 70% of their vehicles are on ethanol today...when is E10 coming our way?

Well to wrap it up in a nutshell.....in 1995 there were just as much electric cars in the US. GM bought out HUMMER, and realized that there was still alot of $$$ to be made from gas-guzzlers. About $100 Trillion to be exact. Therefore, they recalled all their electric cars and crushed them. Then said that there is no need to produce electric cars anymore.

Hybrids are progressing now, but the king of all cars was the electric. Kinda sucks doesn't it? I think they have a website...I'll look it up and post it for you all to review.

Here is wa I rememba reading on dis subject; This wa a green study on the efficiency of electric cars, what it basically said wa that the energy required to recharge these autos,if produced by a fossil fuel burning electric plant,wa just as environmentally detramental as a gas auto running.I believe dat is why hybrids that charge demselves are far more efficient.Of course hydro-electric or nuclear plants charging dem is a different matter.AS a nation we are severely handicapped burning diesel fuel to power our electric generation plants.

I read an article somewhere about a group of highschool students that built an electric car capable of 0-60 in under 4 seconds and a top speed of over 200mph.
