ISSUES THAT COULD COOK CHRISTIE'S GOOSE!

When it is said that a person's 'goose is cooked,' it usually means that whatever they are in to, their *** is usually fried. And many are saying that you can stick a fork in Christie's reign as Prime Minister, because he is done. And if that is so, it will be the issues that could cook Christie's goose!

As with the hurricane season, the political season is upon The Bahamas. And as with each political season it is always important to look at what will be the issues that an Election could turn on. This writer is of the view that the issues should be about the conveyance of land to foreigners, the vexing problem of illegal immigration, the true state of the economy and all of the crooked PLP's that have resurfaced under the PLP Government.

LAND - The debate is raging as to whether this Government has in fact exercised a responsible land policy in giving away or selling at below standard prices, the valuable land of The Bahamas. There is a view that foreign investment is what drives the prosperity of The Bahamas; and on the other hand, there is a view that this Government has given away, or sold cheaply, too much land in the hopes of job creation in the future. The reality here is that whichever approach the Government uses, if it isn't designed to keep the ultimate ownership of the land in the hands of Bahamians, where the destiny of The Bahamas can be maintained by Bahamians-then all that's really happening is that The Bahamian people are being relegated to mere workers in a country owned by foreigners.

IMMIGRATION - The crisis of illegal immigration is magnified by the fact that Bahamians see the problem as one that can be solved. But the reality is that desperate immigrants, like the poor, will be with us always. And to that end, the fight is continuous. But what a Government can and should do is to take a position that will minimize the allure to sneaking into the Bahamas by encouraging the hiring of Bahamian labor at wages commensurate to the cost of living. The minimizing of illegal immigration calls for cooperation from employers, by being willing to pay fair wages and from employees who are willing to give a full day's work for a full day's pay.

But when everyone is only thinking of themselves, you'll find illegal immigrants available to help meet the needs of the selfish. And no one is more selfish and self-centered than PM Christie-and probably has more Haitians working for him than even the law would allow!

ECONOMY - While this Government would have you believe that the economy is robust in it's growth; if the masses don't feel it in their pockets or in the ability to progress while meeting obligations-then all this Government is doing is talking to The Upper Class, or The Chosen Few, that they give all of the big deals to and take care of, almost, religiously. If this Government is to be remembered for anything in it's term in Office, it will be how they took care of the few special families as if they were black UBP's! Which brings us to the subject of:

CROOKED PLP'S - Of course it doesn't help the PLP's chances of survival when you recogonize that Christie has persons like Crooked Frankie Wilson, Neil Ellis, Paul Adderley, George Smith, Gary Christie, Elliston Rahming and other small fries like Judson Wilmot (who would only be fronting for the big crooks), around Public Affairs and Public money. These are the people, who even in the best of days, no decent and law-abiding citizen wants to see above the ground and definitely not around their affairs! But they have been the beneficiaries of all the gravy the PLP has to offer at the expense of the taxpayers-and you don't even know the half of what the gravy has been!

So these are what the Election issues will be and it's up to you to decide if the PLP Government has handled these issues responsibly. In this writer's opinion, because the PLP has allowed themselves to be led like they are blind, by the blind (Christie); they have failed miserably.
